Waiting for surgery to end

Well, today is the big day. My DW is having her surgery. She has stage II bc, and is getting a bilateral mastectomy with a TRAM flap reconstruction. She's been in surgery since 11a EST, so I know I won't see her until at least 10p.

The oncologist said that he found cancer in a lymph node. Does that mean she'll need chemo?

Hi Alan - I hope by now your wife is out of surgery and doing well. Your are an amazing support for her. The cardinal rule used to be chemo if there is cancer in a node, but I have seen cases on these boards where the onc orders the oncotypedx test and in cases where that is low, chemo is not recommended. Hang in there. Thinking of you.
