I am from Allen Park and am getting treatment at U of M. I am looking for other gals from Michigan who are sharing in this battle.

I am three years out from cancer treatment at U of M for Stage 3 cancer.  My mom, age 80, was diagnosed

with Stage 1 breast cancer in June.  I live in Ohio, but make the drive to U of M because THEY ARE AMAZING!!!!

I cannot find one negative thing to say about U of M (except the aqua gowns - they need new ones).  I was there

for a visit this week.  I am their biggest cheerleader!  If someone gets a hangnail, I tell them they better go to U of M!

    My best to you!

thanks Denise, I have no complaints about U of M either (except the wait time), but the staff and doctors are excellent and very knowledgable. All my best to you in you and your mother!

I am 4 years out from Surgery at U of M.  I had chemo at Beaumont.  I now live in Chicago.  Surgeons at U of M were amazing!   Hope all goes well with you!  Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.  Good luck!

MDG - Dr. Tara Breslin, my breast surgeon at U of M 3 years ago, is now in Chicagoland.

She is the Medical Director at Northwestern Lake Forest.  She gave me so much hope after

she leveled all the bad news.  She looked me in the eyes and said, "We can cure you."

I didn't believe her, but I had those words painted on my dining room wall visible from most

rooms in my house.  During the darkest days of chemo, I would sit and stare at it.  Those words

are still on my wall.  I can see them as I write this!  They will remain there!

    wow Denise,

I am very moved by the fact that you painted that on your wall and still have it today. I can see it being a strong motivator to get better. Thanks for sharing that! I am trying to find my motivation as I start this journey. I am getting very discouraged. It has been over four weeks since my mastectomy and I am still home from work. I started chemo last week so my journey has just begun.

Robin, It is so hard when you are beginning the journey.  It feels like such a long, dark tunnel.  Often, I would feel like I was in the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel stopped dead and not moving and trapped!   Do find your motivation.  It is different for all of us.

It will help get you through!!  And you will make it!!

I'm in MI too. I hadn't heard about the MI thread already going. Thanks mmtagirl! I'll check it out.

Denise - stuck in the Detroit-Windsor tunnel? My reaction is so visceral to that one, that I'm trying to decide which is worse! :) jk
