Micocalcifications and biopsies

edited January 2015 in Waiting for Test Results

One week before my 48th birthday I get a call back and from that appointment, biopsies on microscopic clarifications in one breast. I'm petrified as I wait for test results from the pathologist. I was told 7 samples were taken, to apply ice packs, and wait for a call sometime next week. I have little to no family medical history and am on pins and needles. So here I sit, tender breasts, anxiety off the chart, reading more on the internet than I probably should be.and waiting. Any information from someone with a similar experience would be wonderful and most appreciated.

Hello toryinvirginia.  I am sorry that you have to go through this anxiety producing waiting for test results time.  My biopsy technician told me that most biopsies come back benign ... that's what I am wishing for you.  Reading takes my mind off my troubles, so I reread a series of books that I had enjoyed while I waited.  Since I had read them before, I did not need great concentration.  Other people will probably stop by to say hello and share their strategies for getting through the waiting.

Hi toryinvirginia, so sorry you're going through this anxious time. Firstly, Sally is so right, that the majority of biopsies do come back benign and both microcalcifications and macro calcifications are also, very common. It is when these calcifications form a pattern, they become suspicious and a biopsy is necessary. The Biopsy is the only way to get a definitive answer. The biopsy you had was likely a stereotactic core biopsy and it is normal to have from 3 to 8 cores taken for pathology to test.

Please try to stay away from Dr Google, it will frighten you, with out of date information. We all know how scary this waiting is, but keeping yourself busy, is the best way to pass the time till you get your results.

Come here and ask questions. if you need support and let us know how you're getting on!
