Titanium Marker Pain and scar tissue

Almost a month ago I had a titanium marker placed during a biopsy. I'm still experiencing pain from it. I'm wondering how long it takes for the pain to subside. I'm also wondering if anyone knows of effective ways to get rid of the scar and lump created from the procedure.

Hello Avalon, there may be someone else ,who has more information about this question. I had a marker put in, as most of us do and had tenderness for a while, but I never thought it was to do with the marker, just the actual biopsy and scar tissue that was left after that. The titanium marker is about the size of a sesame seed, so I doubt it is the cause of any pain. The biopsy is an invasive procedure, so can be sore for a while. I stayed tender for the 5 weeks or so, before I had a Mx and the marker went with the breast.

You don't mention if you have had your pathology results yet. There are silicone scar strips, which are very successful for some of us, in removing raised or red scars. There is always vitamin E oil or essential oils that you can massage to help with pain and scar tissue.

Related to the marker, the clip left inside the breast shouldn't cause any pain or harm, so our recommendation is that you ask your doctor if the pain continues, just to make sure everything is ok.

Thank you for your thoughtful replies. My results were negative, so I am very thankful. I had contacted the doctor regarding the pain when it was really bad about two weeks after. They said it was probably just the scar tissue forming, which sounded reasonable. It's a shooting, sharp pain so it definitely feels related. The biopsy was near the surface, so maybe that's why I'm feeling it still. But as you mentioned, Ariom, it can take a while to heal. If it continues or worsens, I'll contact my doctor.

I wish I would have found this site when I was waiting for the results. My results took a while to get and I was worried. It's hard to share worry with friends and family. Thank you so much for your support.

I don't remember having much pain from the core needle biopsy I had a couple weeks prior to the lumpectomy, but in the months following the lumpectomy I would get those sharp shooting pains. The nurse had warned me about it - said that's the nerves regenerating from where they were damaged during the surgery. I would expect that's what's happening to you, too. At two years out I still get them occasionally, but MUCH less frequently than in the first 6 months or so.

Avalon, I'm glad your results were negative. That's great news. You may be experiencing pain due to a hematoma - if so, it could take a month or two to fade but it should do so eventually. As Ariom pointed out, the marker is really tiny so shouldn't be noticeable.

Hi.  I had the clip put in about 2 yrs ago.  I have pin in my neck, arm and back.  My breast hurts and burns. I am almost certain it is the clip but everyone just tells me It IS NOT THE CLIP BECAUSE THE CLI[ IS SO SMALL..  If my body is rejecting it I don't think the size matters.  I hope you found relief.

I have swelling and pain in the breast after two titanium markers were left in the breast after tumour removal. It's now 8 months since surgery was done and my nipple ( where the markers were left in place is swollen and feels on fire )

Anyone else had problems like this

You can ask to have the marker removed. Contact your surgeon. Some radiologists have experience removing them with a biopsy device.
