Surgeons that KNOW the TUG flap procedure!
Hey, this is my 1st blog ever. I was diagnosed with DCIS with 1mm of invasion last year. Had 2 lumpectomies with dirty margins. Now I'm ready for a BMX. Visited 2 PS both said I wasn't a candidate for DIEP which most PS who are microvascular surgeons are experienced in performing. I've spent countless hrs searching websites for a surgeon that performs the TUG flap. Most use the term on their sites as buz words but no discussion or photos for this procedure. I know that I may have problems maintaining my 40D sisters, but the other options GAP,DIEP, TRAM, flaps aren't for me based what was explained by PS and my research. So can anyone provide the email address of an experienced microvascular PS. I have search for data that provided the number of procedures performed by them too, but it's not easily available to the public. All cancer websites encourage those in need of a PS to find an experienced one, but they don't explain how. Insurance companies should have it but we aren't allowed to access it. I'm worn out and frustrated. Please help!!!!

Where are you located, and are you willing to travel?

I got both of these just by googling "tug flap" and both of these centers have great reputations, and do many procedures. You might also consider the Center for Restorative Breast Reconstruction in New Orleans - they are among the pioneers of microvascular plastic surgery - referred to often on this site as NOLA. They can often do autologous reconstruction on patients who have been deemed unsuitable by other less experienced plastic surgeons.

Thanks for the response special k. I had a consult at JH. Only focused on what the Dr specialized in. All flap options were not offered. Was told by her receptionist that the dr would refer or offer the names of drs that could address other options but she said that she didn't know of anyone. I left very discouraged.
I emailed the center in New Orleans but haven't heard from them.

I had a TUG and my PS is Dr. Hani Sbitany at UCSF.

He did an amazing job and I am very happy with the results. UCSF is one of the top hospitals in the US and I received great care. Pictures of my breast are on the picture forum. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to PM me. Good luck!

Thanks for the info Rubisyat. Happy to hear that you had great results. I'm on the east coast. That kind of commute isn't cost effective. I found PS closer but they are out of network. I have BCBS. I'm concerned that my BC will get worst before I find a dr in network. Good luck with your recovery

Good luck to you Lnj! I hope you find a good PS in network soon.

Thank you Rubiayat,
I feel discouraged. Tracing to NY, LA, or SC seems impossible too. The PAP is my best option. Must get back to searching for a dr. Again thanks
