Bilateral Medicare coverage for one cancer,

I had a bilateral mastectomy. The right side was stage 2 and necessary. The left side could be done wth just a lumpectomy. We made the decision to go with the bilateral. My daughter had BC as well as my sister's 2 daughters. Medicare is going with a final decision of denying coverage of the left side saying it was cosmetic. Right now we are fighting a$1,500 bill. Has anyone else dealt with Medicare on this issue?

    wow, Sue that sucks!  I have not experienced Medicare and hope someone else can chime in.  did your doctor write a letter explaining that it was necessary??  That's the only thing I can think of.

    That is truly depressing. Can you get your doctors to write a letter in support of your choice of bilateral? So sorry you're having to deal with that.
