Just started Taxol and I already have tingling in my feet

On Friday, I had my first round of chemo - Taxol and Herceptin.  Every since my chemo session, I have non-stop tingling in the bottom of my feet.  I am worried this is just going to get worse and I've been told that neuropathy can become permanent. Is there anything I can do to minimize this?  Should I try using ice packs under my feet during my next round?  Is it normal to get tingling after my first chemo session?

Hi! I do not start Taxol until Monday, however, my oncologist has had me start on glutamine supplements this weekend to help prevent this. He advised me to let him know about any tingling and they would back off the dosage so that this would not become permanent. Maybe this could help you too; it's worth asking your Dr. about! Best to you.

I developed neuropathy after my first Taxol treatment 4 years ago. I took 10mg of L-Glutamine powder three times per day all through chemo, and beyond (30mg total per day). I weighed it out and then mixed it with OJ -- not bad! I also took a Vitamin B complex, but check with your oncologist as to how much B-6 you can take -- apparently, it can counteract the chemo. Mine contained 50mg of B-6, and that was acceptable. Took the L-Glutamine for over a year and tapered off as symptoms dissipated. I also went for some acupuncture treatments. I don't know if it was just the passage of time, or the supplements and the acupuncture, but the symptoms almost completely went away after 18 to 24 months following treatments. Occasionally, I feel a little tingling in my feet in bed at night, but it's very tolerable. Good luck!!!

I will have taxol #11 on Tuesday. After taxol #8 I developed slight neuropathy. It doesn't really bother me and hasn't gotten any worse. I have taken l- glutamine powder faithfully since day 1 of taxol. Ask you onc about using it. I think it has helped me by not letting the neuropathy get worse.

Thanks for the info. I did call my oncologist but can't be seen until tomorrow because if the busy holiday week. I was wondering what others did in this situation and now I will see what my dr. says. They did email me to say to take vitamin B, so I will start that today.

I had my first of 4 Taxol treatments yesterday and I am already feeling tingling in the bottom of my feet and hands. I already had some neuropathy in my toes from my diabetes and my Dr talked to me about switching to 12 weekly doses before I started, but I already had my eye on the end of the chemo road and didn't want to change it.

Where can I find L-glutamine? I've looked in the supplements section at the grocery store but I don't see it.

I ordered mine off of Amazon. It is pure l-glutamine from now. I ordered two big jars and should have only ordered one.
