My father is a breast cancer survivor and tested negative for the Brac Testing.  Is this a test I should still do or will I be negative also?

Thanks for any answers

Tina :)

    Hi Tina-

Welcome, and thank you for joining our community here at Breastcancer.org. Many people have questions about BRCA testing. You can find out more information here: http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/testing/genet....

You said your father tested negative, how about your mother? If both parents test negative for either BRCA mutation, then there would be no reason for you to undergo genetic testing, as it's an inherited mutation, and has to be passed on from one or both parents.

We hope you find the information you're looking for here, please let us know if we can help in any way!

    Just seconding the mods' response.

If your father is negative and there's no immediately family history of breast cancer on your mother's side, or indeed if she has been tested and is negative, then there is no need for you to worry.
