Buying halo's and bangs?
I tripped over a website, where they sell bangs and halo's for hats. i have a high forehead with wrinkles. I've been looking at several color and types of halo's and bangs.
the thoughts of me looking in the mirror, bald, just scares the krap out of me. I still have several more tests before they start chemo, but I certainly want to be prepared.
The website is www.tlcdirect.org I was wondering if anyone else has used it?

Brend. I Did not use the website you mentioned, and I just want to share with you my experience going bald. I thought I would look so bad, but I am telling you, I found it to be so freeing! I did not mind it or miss my hair at all. I did lose my eyebrows and eyelashes toward the end, and I did miss them, but the hair...it was just one less thing to worry about when I was busy in treatment. It is a brief time in the scheme of things, it was about 9 months before my hair began to grow back, like a pregnancy it seems long when you are in it, then afterward it seems so brief. I know this is not what you were asking about in your post, but I bet you will look great bald! Dont let cancer, or the treatment to save your life, make you feel bad about yourself or take your confident spirit from you. I hope this helps some, that was my intent. Thinking of you!

I rec'd several items from this site (and continued to get their catalogs for months which I was able to pass along to others). They are affiliated with the American Cancer Society. Having chemo during the summer meant that wigs were sometimes too warm & uncomfortable which made the halo attached to a hat a nice alternative. The long style I chose was a little too thin to wear loose so I tied it back in a ponytail using a favorite scarf that was not wide enough to work as a head wrap. Tlc sale pages were the best - lots of things at deep discount allowed me to experiment with hair colors. I can now tell a funny story about my husband not recognizing me as a "carrot top"!
Couple other positive points: I saved a lot of time and money not buying shampoo, going to the salon, shaving, etc. Also, everyone thought it was cute growing back. My eyelashes thinned and I was ready to try falsies but didn't. Despite always thinking my "crowning glory" was my best feature, I was able to let it go. Meadow gives good advice in the post above. You will get through this and maybe even find a bit of humor along the way...

brend, there is also a company that will make a "halo" out of your own hair. I didn't use them; they were kind of pricey. I did make my own halo though, out of my hair. I used a wide headband and taped the hair to it, so I could wear it under hats, beanies, etc. It worked for a while. I know what you mean about being bald. It's not for everyone. I had 12" of hair that I donated before chemo; it was hard to see it go. I let my hair fall out as it would and never went completely bald. I trimmed it up when it was almost all gone, then the new sprouts started coming in. You can also call your local American cancer society and they will give you a free wig, if you want. When it's all said and done, do what works for you! Yes, you will get through it:)
Best wishes~

When you used your own hair for the halo, what kind of tape did you use?

Kris, it was just strapping tape. You need to lay the hair on it, tape one side, then tape the underneath also. I left my hair longer than I wanted it, so I could trim it after I tried it on. I used a wide cloth, knit head-band. You can use bobby pins to keep the band in place under a hat. I hope that helps!:)

It does help! But I do not know what strapping tape is? So you made it like a partial wig?

LOVED my halo! Not sure what brand but chemo during the summer made my wig too hot and the Halo was a welcome relief. I didn't like being bald and miss my long locks terribly, but I did save enough on haircuts to rent a cabin for a week! And it is growing faster than I expected. The Halo was cheap 50$ and well worth it

Weird question. Would you know of a place that makes a halo in a large head size? I am having trouble finding things cuz I have an alien head.
-
It's the wide clear package tape that you tape boxes with. Yes, I just made bangs.

I can't afford to have a halo made out of my hair. The halo I bought costs $30 from www.tlcdirect.org.
and Kris, if you go to their website, they will show you how to measure. The halo's and hats go by sizes. They aren't one size fits some...LOL.
