Mondors Disease or something else...
November 6: my first obgyn appointment. I scheduled it because I had noticed an indentation running along side the left side of my left breast. I did a BSE and thought maybe I felt a lump, but my breasts are already pretty lumpy , even more so on my left breast. The dr did a breast exam concentrating on the area under the Indentation. Right away identified what she thought to be a "1 cm cyst" . Sent me for an ultrasound scheduled for...
November 10: ultrasound . Tech was unable to find anything abnormal. Didn't attempt to feel for a lump. (Radiologist didn't either ). But when they looked at the indent suggested I schedule with breast surgeon there. Which brings me to today.
November 24. Appointment with breast surgeon.
Says my boobs are "lumpy bumpy ". Felt the lump I feel but says it's just normal. ( 2 doctors are saying different things.) Surgeon Says if the other doctor felt something it was probably a cyst. I had the ultrasound 4 days after this... is it possible for a cyst to go away in 4 days if you're 18 days away from your period?
Says I'm too young for breast cancer. (I'm 21) I know it's rare but it's possible.
Says ultrasound was clear ( I've seen so many stories on here of women whose cancer was missed with an ultrasound, especially with dense breasts.) I feel definitively this just eliminated possibility of cyst .
I asked her to just order an mri and she wouldnt.
She thinks my indent is "mondor disease" I'm reading it's rare and dominant in women between 30-60. She said my indent couldn't be BC because it's a "straight line". But looked like mondor. From what I read mondor becomes more visible when the arms are raised. Mine becomes more visible when my hands are on my hips and the chest muscle is flexed/tightened. In mondors, the area is tender and painful and subsides eventually, I believe I read 12 weeks? My indentation isn't tender. Occasionally, my left breast feels full and heavy, and occasional dull aches and sharp pains (unrelated to touch). The nipple is sore often as well. And most unusual , google images shows this is disease looking NOTHING like mine. I'm very confused, and feeling dismissed because of my age. She threw one rare possibility out for a different rare unfitting possibility. I know it's not encouraged but I'd like to share a photo.

Please help with your knowledge guy's , I don't know what to think. I'm getting all sorts of answers.
The next step is another ultrasound in the same area to look for a Mondor Disease vein causing this indentation. She said it was a different ultrasound looking for not a lump, but a vein that she says may or may not be there even if I have this disease!?

Karissa, I am so sorry you find yourself in this situation, but glad you found us.
I don't know how much I can help you here, other than to say I was Dx with Mondors, but I got it after my Mastectomy and the information I had, although a bit sketchy, says it is caused by trauma to the breast. Did you have any injury to the breast recently? I found a fair amount of information about women who had breast augmentation, who got it, but my Surgeon, who has been doing breast surgeries for cancer for a long time, had only seen 1 other case, before me.
Mine was big, it came from under my ribcage and stretched down across my abdomen branching off in 2 directions. It felt tight, sore and it burned a bit, when I stood upright and bent slightly backward, it could also be seen through my skin. All in all, pretty darn ugly! Oh, and 1 of the branches snapped, when I turned over in bed. It took about 3 months to disappear, but it came back for a short while, but disappeared on its own. I believe these things can be either veins or lymph. I saw some info on them being biopsied, but they are not something to fear regarding cancer.
Please feel free to ask me any questions, I don't know if any of this will help you at all, but I wish you all the very best.Let us know how you get on.

Thank you for your reply, Ariom.
I have not had any known injury to the breast, or any type of surgery - or anything. The size of my indentation ( as you can see if you click the link I posted of the indentation in the original post) is only the length of the left side of my breast. It doesn't "branch" or appear to resemble the path of a vein. It mostly straight. It's odd because everywhere I see they are only visible when the arm is raised? Were you able to feel the cord underneath the skin? Was your raised or indented. Another thing Im having a hard time understanding is that she is saying I could have this disease even if an ultrasound doesn't confirm it? How is an ultrasound looking for a cord / vein different then the one I had looking for a lump a few weeks back? wouldn't they have seen a vein when they ultra sounded the same spot on my breast under the indentation? So confusing. It just doesn't look like it from what i'm seeing online, i don't have significant pain, and i haven't had any trauma. Is she possibly just making reasons for my indentation that dont make sense because she doesnt think that breast cancer is possible in someone my age (which it is just unlikely). I dont want to swallow this DX without proof ( an ultsound of the cord). The surgeon says my Mondor cord indentation could be there forever. But everywhere I see 12 weeks.

Karissa I wouldn't stop trying until you fell comfortable with the answers your getting. Get a second opinion . Just because it doesn't show up on ultra sound doesn't mean there is nothing there. I found a lump in my breast it didn't show up on any imaging. My breast surgeon says if you can feel but can't see it he believes in taking it out. That's the only way you will know what it is That's what he did on me and found cancer. So glad I had a doctor that took it seriously. I'm not saying that you will have to have surgery but I would get that second opinion. Wishing you the the best. Sus

did you ever find an answer? I have sometime similar. It's a small raised white line at the bottom/undersize of my left breast. It doesn't hurt and I got it checked and the doctor said she didn't think it was anything and tonjust keep an eye on it. I have been for about a year. No changes. But every time I get undressed or shower I see it and I worry because I don't remember having it up until a year ago.

I have breast indentations on my left breast only. Had ultrasound, mammogram and MRI. All came back clear. I have weakened ligaments in my left breast. It's possible for indentations to be normal breast changes but always make sure you talk with your doctor. My breast specialist explained that though in may not be commonly spoken about sometimes ligaments get lazy and stop holding your breast niceand evenly up

Hi ladies! I have what feels like a vein that goes from my nipple to the outer part of my breast towards the center of my chest. I am currently breastfeeding also. This vein/cord type structure causes an indentation in a straight line. I can squeeze the structure and can feel fluid squishing around in it. Also at times there will be a tiny bb sized lump in it and I can squeeze it and it pops and flattens out. Had an ultrasound and it was normal. Seen breast specialist and she wasnt concerned. Any advice? Thoughts on what this could be?

Hi Ladies,
Not sure if you had noticed, but this is an old thread that goes back to 2014. You may also find it helpful to click on their name, as it will bring up their profile and you can see when they last logged on to the sight.

Hi Chelleb17
I have that same thing in my abdomen from the nipple . The skin is indented and I see a cord and it looks scary. I did have a lumpectomy a couple of months ago and sentinel node biopsy . I had IDC . I went on to have more trauma to my breast with radiation . I will be seeing my radiologist this werk and am hoping they are familiar with mondors or whatever this could be. I am so anxious these days after having BC . Did not have a lump or symptoms with it either. Just a suspicious mammogram .
Hope you get some answers . Keep me posted.🌸
