Hair growth after AC
I finished my last round of AC chemo on October 16th and I still don't have any hair growth. My hair normally grows pretty fast. I'mjust wondering how long did it take for people to regrow hair after AC.
Thanks

Hi sweetie, I, too, have fast growing hair....I think it took a month or more for my hair to really take off and grow again, after my last AC treatment. My hair had been almost waist length b4 chemo, so quite a shock to be bald! It came back quite curly, but now, after 3 years, it is just as lush and thick as it always was. Don't despair....it will grow again!

Thanks for responding. That's good news I was worried that my hair might not grow back and I hate to wear wigs so I want some hair ASAP. I know I just have to be patient. :-)
-
I had 12 weeks of weekly Taxol following my AC. During this time my hair did start to grow back slowly ............
Then my eyebrows and lashes fell out! Go figure!
-
I had taxol first and AC last. I have heard many people say they hair grew back while on taxol. My eye lashes and eyebrows started coming out after AC but I still have a little left, but I'm thankful for the little I have.
-
I had 4 AC and finished the AC in the end of February. I then started herceptin. My hair came back slowly (I believe the herceptin slowed the growth rate), but by the end of August (6 months) I had a little over an inch of hair.
It has now been almost 8 years since the end of the AC (7 for the herceptin) and I have a full head of hair that needs trimming once a month to maintain my style.
-
Sassa, wow in took 6 months to get an inch of hair. Herceptin may have slowedthe growth rate, hopefully it will not take that long for me to get any hair. If so I just have to find a new wig I like. Thanks for the response.

I had 12 tx of weekly taxol after four every other week AC. My hair fell out on AC and then after about week seven began to grow back on taxol. It grew back curly; I still have a bit of a wave, and maybe because I'm taking biotin it grows an inch a month and is super thick, better than before I had little c. Taking biotin might help you. It's an inexpensive supplement found at natural food stores.
But your hair WILL grow back!
-
Claireinaz thanks for your response, I will get some biotin to see if it help. I did get some hair and nail vitamins but the only thing growing is my nails and really fast. I think it might have some biotin in it.

I did 4 DD A/C neoadjuvant then 12 Taxol adjuvant. Last Taxol was in late Jan. - I finally had between 1/2 and 3/4 inch of hair by Memorial Day. It grew back exactly as it had before chemo. I was so hoping it would come back grey because at 63 at the time, it being as dark as it had always been naturally all my life at 63 then always go unsolisited comments that I shouldn't dye my hair so dark - I DON'T - IT'S HOW IT GROWS, still 5 yrs later!
-
Kicks it took about 4 months for you to get ahead of hair also. Looks like it going to take me a while. Thanks for responsing! I guess you won't be Turing grey any time soon! :-) that's cook but I think grey hair it beauitful.

Akevia - My last treatment was at the end of January 2012, and my profile picture is from the end of May that same year. i have had little trims along the way, but my hair is now all chin length. It will grow, but it is a bit slower process than we'd like it to be.
-
nbnotes thanks for the response. I just will have to go get a wig that I like. I see if takes about 4 months to get a full head if hair.

I did AC followed by 12 weeks of taxol, and my hair didn't START coming in until almost two months after last taxol treatment. I was really worried. After that it came in quite quickly, as in, more hair rather than longer hair. It is 6 months after last taxol, and my hair is quite thick and I have good "coverage" but it is still very short, maybe 2 inches long. I have not been able to get a haircut yet. But boy, am I glad I have hair with no bald spots whatsoever!!

Hey girls! Hello from Rio de Janeiro! Brasil!!!! I'm a 41 years old mother of twins and just finished chemo. I had surgery before and then adjuvant chemo. 4 cycles of AC every 2 weeks and 4 cycles of Taxol, every 2 weeks. Ihad what docs called dose dense. My last chemo was on september 25th and I still have baby hair. But gray. Yay!!!! I used to be blonde before and now I look like a white rabbit. It is taking to long to come back...I don't know if is causa I had the dose dense regimen... Anybody with the same issue? Now i'm on radio and have 14 sessions to go, plus tamoxifen...
Picture taken after my first chemo - my real hair
And today:

Deblc- I will be happy to have 2 inches of hair and I feel better that it's taking a while for everyone to get hair and just not me.
Bettina - I had dose dense chemo also and it been 6 week with no hair but a little fuzzthat never fell out in the first place. You look really cute with the short hair and I will take that any day. I'm so tired of seeing my bald head.
-
The doctor just took me off of hercepton so I'm anxious to see if my hair grows faster
-
Akevia: Same problem here, almost 6 weeks with no hair, only this fuzz that you can see in the second picture. I hope during christmas I will give my wig away. Here in Brasil is summer and especially in Rio is really hot.( (95's...) and january is worst. But I'll be in Mia and NY visiting some friends. And starting Tamoxifen...Thanks for your compliments, its really great to hear some when we are bold....
-
Hi! How many cycles you did? It has been 8 weeks after my last chemo and I only have a little fuzz...But I think with targeted therapy your hair will grow fast, no problem. Best wishes for you!
-
Same here, but I did the dose dense taxol, last one september 25th...Only now I have a little fuzz...and white. But full coverage. Really short. I can't wait to get rid off my wig. It is summer here in Brasil plus I'm having those sweats from chemo...My kids (12 year old twins) say that my hair looks like a carpet...Two inches is like two fingers? Because we use centimeters here and I have almost one (One finger) of thin hair coming.
Best, Bettina

Bettina you're welcome, I had 12 cycles of weekly taxol but 4 cycles of AC dose dense which ended Oct 16th. So about 6 weeks ago, I don't have as much hair as you. I have a little fuzz and you can still see my bald head a lot. My daughter tell me mom your hair is growing in good and quick..... Lol she just say that to make me feel better. I guess it's a little better because it winter here but I'm in Florida and it doesn't get that cold. If I had the amount of hair you had my wig would be off!!! Hopefully I will have more hair in 2 weeks.
-
Akevia, I also completed chemo on October 16 (Dose dense AC x 4 and then dose dense Taxol) and have no growth either....only a few strands of fuzz! Eyelashes continue to fall out too, so there are only about 3 on each side....grrrr. I've read other posts of people that were on dose dense that didn't start to show signs of anything growing until about 8 weeks...how frustrating
-
Good to know that I am not the only one with slow growing hair!!
I had AC then DD taxol, last treatment was Sept 22. Oncologist said hair would start to regrow after 4 weeks. In those 4 weeks I lost my eyebrows and eye lashes, but those have already noticeably returned (yay!) and my head hair is showing, but not as much as I had hoped.
My dermatologist suggested taking biotin, so I may try that.
Hang in there, - our hair will return!!
-
PS - Bettina, - your hair is much thicker and covers more than mine!!
-
Jules368 yes it's frustrating!!!
AnotherNYCgirl- hair regrow in 4 weeks?!?! I guess it all depends on the treatment. Yes our hair will grow!! :-)
-
Akevia, - the oncologist said it would first START to regrow in 4 weeks!
-
anotherNYCgirl- O okay, got cha! :-)
-
Jules! Good news for you. My lashes and eyebrows fall out one month after my last chemo. grrrr!!!! I was looking like a zombie, no costume needed for Haloween's eve. hahaha. But one week later it was growing back soooo fast. I only stayed one week with no eyebrows. And same with my lashes. I used a crayon from MAC that was really simple to drawn my eyebrows plus an eyeshadow the same color to fill. Here is th name:Fling Eye Brows( crayon) and you pick the best color for you and I used some eye shadow with the brush number 266, from MAC also. It helped me a lot during this period. They are the last to fall and first to grow back.
best

And is growing really fast. when starts to come back, is really fast. But all white here. I have white hair since my 20's...old soul...haha. But now is ALL white. I'll try some colored shampoo covering next weekend. new pictures to come. I think is because the dense dose cycles it takes a while to grow back...
-
Thanks! Soon we are going to be full of hair again. I will try some color shampoo to cover my whites this weekend. Pictures later! It so nice to see our kids coping with their moms disease. Here my boys won't cut their hair for a while lol....
