3 years post radiation and sudden "sunburned" patch of skin

Options

Hello all,

I finished 6 weeks of radiation in 7/11. I have been experiencing what I have read so many of you are also experiencing: rib pain, poor range of motion, LE, etc. since finishing treatment. About 2 months ago I discovered an extremely red spot at the bottom of my treated breast. It was about the size of a silver dollar and looked like a sever sunburn. I know it came up quickly because I go to my LE therapist every 2 weeks and she had not notice anything. I was very worried about IBC so I went to my onc. and had mammo, MRI and ultrasound of area, all of which showed no signs of anything - no thickening, no masses. Dr. decided to not do a biopsy at the time due to my LE and fearing making it worse. Now, a month later, it is still there. It does not hurt, but if scratched it does feel like sunburned skin. I am just wondering if this sounds like anything anyone else has experienced.

Thanks!

Lisa

Have you gone back and seen your radiologist? When I finished radiation, mine stressed that if I had any strange things going on with that breast at any time in the future, I should see him FIRST before going through a lot of other doctors, tests, etc.

Thanks so much for mentioning this, ruthbru, because I have not seen my radiologist. I went to a different hospital for radiation than I did for everything else. I will make an appointment today. I honestly didn't even think about it having anything to do with radiation until my LE therapist mentioned it the other day.

I just remember it because my radiologist was so firm about it. Let me know what you find out.

I had 36 radiation treatments in June-July 2013 for Stage 1 Breast Cancer. I was left with a horrible thick scar, and recently under my breast appeared a red patch and also a thickening in one spot. After MRI, Ultra Sound, Punch Biopsy, and regular Mammogram, I have been referred to specialist at a University hospital, who just removed most of the radiation scar for a biopsy looking for Cutaneous T Cell Lymphoma. Has anyone experienced anything like this from radiation. My breast has been inflamed since I took radiation, and now I am waiting for another skin cancer diagnosis.

I am just 2 years out, stage 1, lumpectomy with radiation twice daily for a week. Recently I am experiencing elbow, rib, arm pain. And will see my doc in a week for an mri, and mamo. my scar tissue and redness seems to turn color, red to brown and pretty dense. lots of changes, the light massage that I learned from the lympth therapist helps, but it must be done often..daily I fact. Its not easy.

I'm sorry for your discomfort and concern.

I have been trying to be diligent about multiple daily massages of my irradiated side and breast to try to promote lymphatic flow in the damaged tissues. Having someone trained in lymphatic massage and drainage has been really elucidating and helpful because I now know how to help drain the area where before my body and brain were confused about what was possible.

If you haven't, you might like to read this piece by Dr Stubblefield, an expert in radiation fibrosis syndrome. Those having acute problems might want to reach out to him to get his insights.
