To aggressive an approach?

Three months ago I had two mammograms and one ultrasound and after review it was concluded I had some cysts. Ok, fast forward to now, I have a little muddy looking discharge from one nipple, went to the OB, he sent me to a surgeon. She found the discharge has blood in it. Now I'm scheduled to have surgery early December. She will remove all my ducts in the breast which is from what she demonstrated is a 2.5-3 inch in diameter 1/2 inch thick hunk of my breast to send to pathology. I may be misshapen and have loss of sensitivity in the nipple. Does this seem overly aggressive to you? Seems like some steps in between are missing. Advice PLEASE!!

I would get a second opinion, that sounds like a lot to remove without a confirmed problem.
