Hi, I was just wanting to ask if any women have had a thyroid nodule or nodules? I recently had an ultrasound because a year and a half

after being diagnosed with breast cancer (which was missed for 3 yrs) a recent f/u visit to my surgeon revealed a nodule. I should say she

asked me if anyone told you that I had a thyroid nodule. I think she said they saw one .08cm.... Anyway I said no and told her I have an appt. for a check up with my

Oncologist and that I would mention it to her. I asked why no one told me and she said she didn't know. :( !!!! This is so very frustrating. Well I had

my ultrasound on Thurs. and last night my doctor called with some upsetting news. She said there were now several nodules and that all but one was

solid and recommended a biopsy. I am so worried and scared. I guess I'm just hoping someone out there has an experience they can tell me about etc.

Thanks So Much You ALL!

Lexie

I had a suspicious nodule that filled the entire left side of the thyroid gland. It was solid and appeared to be a follicular neoplasm on U/S and fine needle biopsy. I had my left side removed and a few days after receiving the news that it was benign I felt a lump in my breast. Because of the thyroid ordeal I believed the breast lump was benign too. Not so.

I don't think breast Ca metastasizes to thyroid so if it was cancer it would be a new primary and easily removed. Thyroid cancers are slow growing. BUT most are benign.

I hope you get results soon to put your mind at ease.

Thank You so much Wrenn for your reply. Here I hoped I was done with having to deal with a major health

scare. I am so nervous... I'm also still trying to get over the fact that I can't really trust the doctors to read tests

and screens right??? I worked for Kaiser for 35 yrs and had to retire a bit early because my husband was

diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma :( He was a Pharmacist at Kaiser for almost as long....

I think hearing from others really helps, I don't feel so alone. Your so sweet.

    Have a wonderful day!

Hi, I too was surprised that I had thyroid nodules - this I found out shortly after I had a MX for DCIS. I had all the symptoms of hyperthyroidism for years, and finally one dr. noted my thyroid numbers were "off" in routine bloodwork. I had a scan, which revealed numerous nodules, so many that it made a lump in my neck - a goiter. I never noticed that before, and now that is all I see when I look in mirror. It's not very large, but it's there. I thought goiters went out with the dark ages. Not so. I had all the tests done - radioactive pill, scans, blood work, etc., but never a biopsy. Now I take Tapizole, and my numbers are much better. My endocrinologist said there is no change in the size of the nodules, and now I have scans every four to six months to make sure of this. She said these nodules are very common, and are usually not malignant. I am 70 years old now. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 69 years. I would not be too worried about the nodules, Lexie, unless they tell you specifically that there is a problem. It is very common, maybe more so in people as old as me, but whenever I go for my regular appt., her waiting room is full of people of all ages who have nodules.

God Bless. Please keep us posted.

Lexie, Sorry you have to deal with this. I don't know how common this is, but an ultrasound found a large nodule on the left. It was so "far back" that u/s didn't show if it was thyroid or parathyroid. Biopsy a few days later. Many stabs but not enough material to study. Repeat stabs, not enough material. Go to major university hospital, can't get enough material. Repeat (4th attempt) with same results. I see Endo every 6 months for followup of what-I-don't-know. This all started about 2 years ago or maybe it's been 3 years. I decided to not get excited about it, except every 6 months. Good luck and keep us updated. Jan

I've had thyroid nodules for several years, and various scans and blood tests.  At this point, I'm having an annual ultrasound.  My nodules (multiple, with one about 1 cm on each side) appear to be perfectly benign.  I have not had a biopsy, but, as long as they remain stable in size and continue to appear uninteresting to the radiologist, I'm fine.
