Underarm lumps
so I have been off the forum for about 8 months. Wanted to just move on with my life and not think about the whole breast cancer thing all that much. I had my my 6 month checkup with my breast surgeon the other day and he noticed I had so small moving lumps under my arm near my breast on my cancer side. He's Said it's just scar tissue, don't worry about it. I've always had some inner lumpiness after my BMX, but was told it was all the biopsies and lymph node removal that resulted in that. The lumps I have right are a little bit more noticeable. so I went to my onc just to get another opinionand she wanted to do an ultrasound, and so I did that today. After reading the results which was not explained to me well,The radiologist recommends that I do a ultrasound guided biopsy next Monday.
I can't believe Its only been 2 years and I might have to do this all over again. It's mentally torturing. Now I have to get thru a week and half before I get to do the biopsy and get the result. I hate this so much!!
Thanks for listening

tlew, I am with you on the moving on with life, and I am sorry you have to revisit all the diagnostic stuff. I just had my 6 mo out check up too so we are at the same spot. I was wondering what kind of surgery you had...I read where you said it was your breast surgeon who wanted to check the moving lumps so I know you must have had some procedure, also curious if you had any reconstruction. I am just asking as I had a double mastectomy and implants, and I have all kinds of bumps and weird places under my arm too. Some of this is to be expected I am sure, scar tissue after having lymph nodes and tissue removed. But sounds like you are in good hands as they want to rule out a reccurance. From what I have read it would be unusual to have a recurrance so soon, so maybe that will ease your heart while you wait for results. Please try to stay positive, and keep us posted with your results. sending hugs your way.

I re read your post and I see you went for the 6 mo checkup, but you are 2 years out, ok I am slow sometimes!

Thanks Meadow. I hope that is the case.
Yep, 2yrs out and a 6 month follow up appointment with my surgeon who pointed out the lumps. But he says it was just scar tissue. I just took my own initiative and followed up with my oncologist whom ordered up the ultrasound and biopsy.I had bilateral mastectomy with implant recon. Now I have to prepare myself mentally if this is indeed a recurrence

IMO, as hard as it is, it is better to know what's going on, than to wonder what's going on. And please, don't get mentally ready for bad news. If there is bad news, it can wait to be worried about. I've had two cancers, I don't know how many benign conditions and scar tissue--oh, and cellulitis.

I can't believe I got through this week,. Finally getting my ultrasound guided biopsy tomorrow morning. it will probably feel even longer when I wait for my biopsy result next week. I've been thinking about it all week, it felt like deja vu from 2 years ago. I remember doing this kind of biopsy 2 years ago when they discovered cancer, I was so emotional through it all, I can't seem to remember how it works... Can anyone share their experience? I remember the stereotactic biopsy was painful IMO.

just saw your post, hope the ultrasound and biopsy went ok. Please keep us posted. ((hugs))

thanks Meadow.
I did the biopsy yesterday and actually got my results today. And it's benign! Yay! The mass that I felt under my arm is leftover breast tissue after my mastectomy. It feels like a big chunk of it. The radiologist suggests either I surgically remove it or monitor every 6 months. I don't even know if it's even worth removing at this point. I don't know if I am ready for another surgery.
Before they performed the biopsy, they said I would need a mammo afterwards. I was caught off guard on that one. I can't imagine them squishing my implants, I can barely touch them without feeling some kind of soreness even after 2 years. So glad they cancelled the mammo as the radiologists says it's hard to capture the image since the location of the mass is under my arm. Phew!
In any event I am so happy I got my result in less than 24 hrs and even more happier that it turned out to be benign! Thanks for listening.

I am in the midwest and I keep hearing that the weather in New York is severe, what a crazy early winter we have had so far. Are you inthe middle of the bad weather? Be safe!
