Hello. In 2012 I had a bilateral excision to remove papilloma lesions , as well as a cyst in my left breast. The pathology report showed ADH in both breasts. Now, I am having discharge in the L breast, dull throbbing pain, and the presence of lumps in the same area. This is mimmicking the same symptoms as before. I have a bilateral mammogram and ultrasound scheduled for the 25th.

is it usual for these symptoms to return after 2 years?

In general.... it possible that the ADH cells could be the cause? Any opinion or advice you have is appreciated.

Hi Lynette, I don't know what your symptoms mean.  Obviously the imaging is the next logical thing to do.  I do know that they don't actually try to remove all of the ADH when it is discovered.  it isn't cancer, so they don't go for "clean margins" with the surgery, so obviously ADH can remain, which potentially puts someone at risk for further problems.  I had ADH found twice, and the second time it was adjacent to DCIS.  About the symptoms, most of the time ADH does not produce symptoms--pain, lumps, discharge.  Cysts certainly do cause symptoms, and you had those last time. Let us know how it goes.

Thank you for your reply ballet. I believe that the cysts may be forming again. I meant to say If it is possible for the ADH to return.

Yes, I'll know more after the testing. I'm hoping to get in sooner than the 25th. It's just worry some that this is happening again 2 years after the surgery. .

    Sorry for the confusion! 😉

I had a dx of ADH almost 4 years ago. Atthe time, I asked both my onc and BS about the probability of the ADH coming back. Both told me that there is no research on this and so my question had to be left unanswered. Very frustrating. The only thing I was told was that with an ADH dx, 20-25% of the time, there will be a progression to BC eventually (but I knew that already.)

I have been extremely lucky-- no further issues (so far, anyway.). It's been very stressful getting checked every 6 months and feeling like I am waiting for the other proverbial shoe to drop. I am just hoping I continue to be in that 75-80% that does not go on to develop cancer.
