5 Years Ago Today............
Today is my 5 year "Cancerversary" from breast cancer surgery! At that time I really couldn't see this far in the future, much less being assured I'd even be here today to share this. I was so scared and overwhelmed, but one thing I knew for sure is that I WANTED TO LIVE. A lot of people call me a "hero", and while I appreciate that compliment, I did the same thing many others have done to stay here with their families and loved ones. If going through multiple surgeries, chemo, radiation, etc. makes me a hero, then so be it. In my eyes, I'm just a Mom, a wife, a friend, a person who wanted more out of life. I never felt there was any other choice. And I feel so blessed to be here today. Not only to have seen my kids grow into such amazing young adults, but to be able to tell you ladies just starting this journey----THERE IS HOPE---there IS light at the end of the tunnel! Of course it's been a roller coaster of ups and downs, but I am here to tell my story.
I also have to thank all my family, friends and loved ones for always being there for me, especially through the roughest times. Looking back I am still truly humbled by people's generosity and caring.
Although I don't visit this site as often as I used to I have to say these ladies (and men) have been part of my life line through this journey. Some I feel I've made life long connections with, even though we've never met in person. So those of you struggling, feeling hopeless, in pain---know it does get better, and you are in the right place.
Hugs and love to each and everyone of you!
Sharon

Awesome post, Sharon! I know we went through treatment together, but I didn't realize our dx dates were so close! I just stopped in to post on the 5 year+ thread (been waiting a while to be able to do that!).
