DCIS grade 2 what is a good treatment

Options

In 2009, I had DCIS grade 0 in my right breast.  I had a lumpectomy and 8 weeks of radiation and I was fine 4 years later.  In 2014, I have DCIS grade 2 again in my right breast.
My breast cancer surgeon says I have to get a mastectomy.  The lumpectomy and radiation was not bad pain wise.  But now I am scared to get a mastectomy.  I don't want to get reconstruction because of the healing process and I need to get back on my feet fast.  How long is the healing process for a double mastectomy?  My left breast already showing signs of calcium so I think it's best to remove both of them that way I don't have to keep going down this road.

I had a double mastectomy without recon 3 years ago. It is a fairly big surgery, but it was surprisingly easy in terms of recovery.

Hi Summer, so sorry you have had to join us here and that you are going through this stuff again.

I had a single Mx without recon and I was very surprised at how easy the recovery was. I didn't have to work, but apart from fatigue, which I always get after an anesthetic, I did very well and although I had a couple of hiccups along the way it wasn't a painful experience, just a lot of weird sensations, from the nerves trying to reconnect..

I am sure there will be others like Momine, who had a BMX to share their experiences with you.

I wish you all the very best, let us know how you get on.

I had a BMX with sentinel and one axillary node removed on 1/11/11. I am STILL on pain medications and treatments! It was EXTREMELY pairnful after surgery. I could hardly move, required assistance in getting up out of the recliner and then out of the bed for a week or two. Within a few months I had severe scar tissue adhesions across the chest and spent months in OT for that.

I just wanted to let you know that not everyone comes out the same. There is the whole range of no pain (I read of a woman who claims she was gardening within a week), on the continuum to severe disabling pain.

I wish someone had warned me that this much was a possibility when I was going to have my BMX. I am glad I have this site to go to for support because its been almost 4 years post-op and I STILL have severe pain problems. (I also got bilateral and truncal LE).

I certainly hope that  your surgery goes well with no complications!
