Mqt64 and WndrWoman, thanks for your advice on the fatigue. I have spoken with my MO, RO and PCP and they don't have any "new" suggestions right now except take it easy and exercise. As you say I may be expecting "too much" and need to be patient and listen to my body. Mqt64 I do have a Y close to me so I will look into the livesstrong class. I have found that after my daily walk I feel a lot better. With this said I have learned to comply to my body's command and get in a mid-day nap so that I don't overdue it.

WheelyGirl, congrats! Happy dance and high-five to you!

Happy day, WheelyGirl! Glad you have finished and had fairly smooth sailing.

Mqt64. Love your positive attitude. Maybe that Medihoney would help with the healing. Someone said something that caused me to turn and trip. Good looking bruises on both knees but if I look for the silver lining, no breaks, so no osteoporosis as I am at 6 months with Anastrozole. Fortunately no trouble walking either - when I travel I take Aleve daily for arthritis.

    Love all those smiley faces!

Hi there. Question: I just finished 37 rads today and skin held up well until a couple of days ago. I started to peel but one area stuck to sports bra and a layer came off. Now using silvadene but every time I wear clothing or use a pad, it peels off again and is bleeding. Anyone else have this skin issue? How long for it to heal?

    Thank you for your help!

Ouch, wino, that's too bad. Silvadene works in a few days. Best when air gets to the spot. Could you just wear a loose t-shirt over the weekend with no bra? It will take a week or two to fully heal. Basing this on my experience and other mentions here.

Mine peeled under the breast too, I am wearing a soft cotton tank under my bra and it does wonders to keep the skin from rubbing in that area.  I also put tons of silvadene on that area, my new wonder drug.

    thank you wndrwoman!

Wheelygirl...did you find your shirt sticking to the silvadene and making skin peel off? I have resorted to a piece of saran wrap on the wound if I need to put on a shirt.

Wino, sorry your skin broke down. I did same thing. Took three weeks to heal but I think I'm a slow healer. It WILL get better!!

Woohoo! Congradulations to all you brave ladies who are done. I have finished 25 treatments and have 1 week of boosts left. Skin is very tender and swollen. I was told that the rads keep working for 2 weeks after you are done so I guess it will take 2-3 weeks till healing starts. Well my life is worth the price. Love, Jean

    congrats to everyone who finished!

Jean you will start healing faster than you know. Areas other than boost start healing even as you are getting boosts. I have finished one month ago and the super dark skin has all peeled off. I still am a tone darker on the left side but nothing drastic and can wear a tube top if needed (not that I wear one but just as an example :) )without anyone noticing

I just had a wonderful 4 day visit with my 17 year old grand daughter and my son.  This is the first time that she has been to visit without her sisters.  It's amazing how wonderful one on one time can be.  We had some good studio time.  She took several new pieces of jewelry that she made home with her. Grandma instructs but grand daughter makes.  She took interesting gifts home to her older sisters.  We have a palm tree that has been an owl habitat for many years.  There are hundreds of owl pellets on the ground under it.  She gathered some that seemed interesting to take home to them.  Understanding that her oldest sister is graduating in paleontology with a specialization in prehistoric small mammals from college. Her other sister is starting college to study to become a veterinarian.  I could barely stop laughing when she showed her grandpa her new jewelry and told him that this was for her, but that she was taking home "owl barf" for her sisters.  It was a great visit.

We spent time hiking in the desert hills looking at rocks. My son is a geologist, so he always makes those trips interesting and educational.  I'm "Gee, isn't that beautiful?" and he is, "Well, that is Aztec sandstone from a boundary formation of  yada-yada-yada from the yada-yada era uplift." But to add real interest he went on to say, "That is where there is mineralization and you can frequently find gemstones such as opal, garnet, peridot etc. in those places." He did know how to get my attention!

It all wore me down to a frazzle, but it was a joyful frazzle!  I hope all is well with you all.

    Yahoo Jean, you're almost there!!

The healing will get there. Some of us had SEs for a couple weeks after RADs but it truly DOES get better. I'm almost 5-weeks and redness is finally fading, swelling is gone, peeling is gone etc. My BS said zingers, tenderness and such might continue for several months. Totally manageable though.

Happy you're almost there! Stay strong!!!

Hi ladies. Saw the first PS last week. I'm anxious to get repairs going but it won't be till later in the year. Need to finish healing and want to have a peaceful summer.

Any of you planning on, or already had reconstruction or repairs? Thought's??

Coyote - that sounds like a wonderful time with your granddaughter!  So glad you got that special one on one time.  Your children and grandchildren sound amazing.

I have been spending a lot more time with my oldest grandson (15).  I was able to work it out for him to ride the bus to my house after school one week per month and it has been really nice.  My husband (a veitnam vet) has never had a lot of patience with children but even he is enjoying those visits.  He evens picks him up at the bus stop when it rains and took him for a haircut.  He is growing up to be such a compassionate and caring young man it is so wonderful to spend that extra one on one time with him.  He takes the time to play a game of cards with his 79 year old great grandmother who lives with us.  He is my oldest grandchild so holds a very special place in my heart.  He made me have energy when I really didn't...those moments mean so much to me now.

Your almost there Jean!  You can do it...soon it will be a distant memory.

Wondrwoman, your reply made me smile! I wasn't feeling very positive, kinda having a pity party in fact. My appointment got changed to Tuesday from Friday and the boob is starting to hurt more often than not. Still draining yucky yellow green stuff after a week of antibiotics. But, after I read your post I decided that by then we should know for sure if it's infection or just that color from the methylene blue. Tuesday still can't come soon enough! Hope you continue to enjoy your vacation. That is called flaling, by the way ,(falling for no good reason) or so a friend told me years ago when I visited her in Germany. I kept stumbling on the curbs!

Coyote, what a wonderful visit! You're family sounds as amazing as you!

WheelyGirl, it is wonderful to have that multi- generational experience. And somehow first grandchildren have a special place. My daughter sent me a text of a heart Luke drew for heart disease awareness at school. It was supposed to be for someone that is special to him and he wrote Grandma Marge in the middle. Made my day, week and even my month!

Quiggy, am feeling like I may be forced into more surgery and am not happy but it may trump draining holes. I think you are wise to give yourself time.

Jean, almost there! Good luck this week and waiting to do that happy dance!

Quiggy, I'll be interested to hear what you decide to do, reconstruction-wise. I'm pretty much on the fence about doing anything, waiting to see how much things change and whether I can gear myself up for more surgery or not.

Coyote, loved hearing about your lovely time with family, in that beautiful setting of yours. Fabulous. And WheelyGirl, you too, with the sweet multigenerational stories. These make me very happy. I have only one grandchild and it looks as if I may always have only one. He's pretty special to me, but I don't get to see him as often as I'd like. He's 4 and lives several states away at present. Mqt64, hang in there! I hope your issue resolves soon! Healing and positive thoughts to all.

    Hi Quiggy,

I will be having reconstruction too and am planning on October/November (average time after rads) I had a Left nipple sparring mastectomy with the tissue expander filled to 700ccs. The right will need reduction and lift. Nervous about having more surgery but excited to go smaller as I have DD cup forever. Want to wear spaghetti straps for once ;)

So happy to hear of super visits with grands. I have no children but have been close to some friends' children and now enjoy their children.

That is one reason my husband and I have been able to enjoy travel. Have been introduced to local traditions people in Aix-en-Provence are trying to keep alive. Yesterday saw the blessing of the tambourins - drums carried over the shoulder, about 2 feet long. Men and women play little flutes while beating the drums. Wear black velvet jackets with colorful shirts.

Hopes for healing and happy moments for all.

    Wino,

It will be nice to have the repairs done and behind us. Although the thought of another surgery/recovery isn't pleasant, I'm anxious to have normal looking tatas.
