Hi Cassiecat! Although I'm not using calendula, several people have mentioned it so I'm sure comments will come. Just wanted to welcome you to the group.
As of today, I will have completed 15 of 30 treatments and so far so good in terms of side effects.
-
Coyote...yeah for finishing your rads treatment!
Reading your posts as well as the others posted by fellow warriors has been a real inspiration for me. I am so happy for you that you are done this part of the journey. You should do something fun this weekend to celebrate!! My medical team has been wonderful too...very professional but caring, funny & pleasant to deal with.
-
Ta Da! Done. I have my graduation certificate and chocolate bar in hand and we are out to lunch.I wanted to mention that I didn't start this topic. ILCMom did that for us.
I'll get back in touch after we get home.
-
My mistake! Thanks very much to ILCMom for getting us started! And thanks to Coyote for keeping our start dates organized.
-
Congratulations Coyote! Glad you made it through this part of your journey - very encouraging for the rest of us following behind.
Cassie - I do use calendula ointment and so far, it's working out quite well. I can't say if it's any better than any other, but it was recommended to me by several others so that is what I decided to use.
-
Congratulations CoyoteNV - you made it
Chocolate sounds nice.
-
Congrats Coyote. Another hurdle over.
-
Congratulations, Coyote! So happy for you!

Thank you all for helping me celebrate. You and my fellow July sisters are all part of the reason that I could complete it. Thank you. If I can do it, so will you.Hugs
-
hey Ladies, I just got my start date..Dec 29th. I just want to thank everyone so far that has shared info ie: lotions , bras,, the bolus thing( never heard of that one before), & tons of encouragement. I even discovered that I'm not the only one who has had a crying jag on the table for my Sim. I'm looking forward to updates & cheering you all along in this journey. Merry Christmas to all!
-
Coyote, Congrats on getting done!!!!
-
Congrats, Coyote! I've got 4 down, 15 to go. So far, no SE's. I've been using Miaderm each night as "insurance". Hopefully I'll find little to no skin damage.
-
congratulations coyote and to all who finished this part of the 'gong show'!! It was number 22 /30 for me today. So far skin is ok. I'm using aloe gel that has to be kept in the fridge and Glaxol cream. Right now I'm dealing with a sinus infection. I hope I feel better for Christmas!
-
I wanted to say "thank you" to everyone who responded to my question about skin tone and reactions from rads.
Gongshow, Hope you feel better quickly. Three out of five in my house have upper respiratory junk going on.
-
Yay Coyote! Another July sister done! Thanks for sharing so much about your experience and for keeping track of here us here. I hope you enjoy some very restful holidays.

Hi! I would like to join- I started Radiation Dec. 17th.
A friend recommended (an bought me a large tube) of Jean's Cream- she had no redness at all. She wouldn't take any money-but said pay it forward. My dr. said just do not apply anything within 4 hours of treatment. She also said it may be advantageous to try different things and change them up. I'm also using a variety of other things recommended. Maybe a little overkill!
-
For creams I am using Natures Villa Body whip . All natural and organic. You can google and get it Naturesvilla.com. After radiation before I put my clothes on I apply Aloe gel. I use this cream after I shower. I am new to rads. Hope this stuff works.
-
Hi everyone, I just read a bunch of posts and want to introduce myself. I just started rads last week on Thursday. I will be going for 33 treatments in total. 2 down, 31 to go. I was told to use calandula cream right after and in the evening. I also have aloe ( 100%) and lanolin. I watched a video and the woman used lanolin at night. She said to wear an old tee shirt to protect your clothing. She also said washes out with warm water, so doesn't stain. I am hoping to keep the skin being treated from getting too irritated. Hoping others have tips on being successful. I still have fatigue on and off even after finishing chemo three weeks ago. I am hoping not to get too tired while doing rads.
I see there is a cath57, we are not the same person. Hi Cath!
-
Welcome to the group Katie57! I hope radiation goes smoothly for you. I'm also using calendula ointment and after 21 treatments, my skin is red, but not painful at all. Hopefully it will work for you also.
Slavrich - I have heard Jeans cream is good, too. I was tempted to try it, but decided to use the calendula as I could purchase it locally. Kind of wishing I would have done Jeans, though, if it even keeps you from getting red - wow! What a great gift to receive
-
I start January 2 for 6 weeks. Thanks so much for keeping track and congrats for being done coyote!
-
Coyote - congratulations on completing the rad treatment. Enjoy the weekend and party! Thank you for keeping track of everyone's start dates.
13 down for me. 20 to go! My skin is holding up ok. Putting Aquaphor 3 times a day. I removed the wires from my old bra. It's ok for now but I may need cami or tank soon. What kinds everyone wear? I'm still working full time so I need some coverage.... :-)
-
Welcome to our group Slavrich and Catie57. In the July Chemo group they saying went something like this..."Welcome to the club no one wants to join." I'm sure that isn't exactly right because I still deal with chemo brain, but you get the point I'm sure. The support here is amazing. Personally, I think there should be research done about the personalities of women with breast cancer....it seems the nicest women in the world are the stuckees.
-
Hi there. I started radiation on December 9th - 10 down, 18 to go. I'd like to know if anyone in this group did radiation with implants? If so I'd love to hear how it went/is going. Thanks! ( posted in Fall Rads also. )
-
I have implants & am wondering the same thing SCMom. I start on the 29th & am very nervous about it in regards to my implants. My lumpectomy surgery cause a lot of internal scarring , which could most likely be exasperated from the rads. There is a thread in the Radiation section where implants are mentioned.
-
Congratulations Coyote! You have been an inspiration! I have 2 more boosts to go. Tuesday is my last one! Happy birthday and Merry Christmas to me!!
I got really sick on Friday and almost missed my rads. They sent me back to the chemo room for IV meds and fluids. They sure try hard to make you feel better. I'm very grateful for the treatment I've received and very grateful for this part of the journey to be about over.
I'm pretty red and under my arm hurts, heck the whole area is pretty sore but I'm making it!!
Good luck to those starting out!
-
hey everyone,
I have done 8 of 36 so far. I am still struggling with nausea/vomiting and a greasy feeling in my mouth. My RO said it was not due to radiation and didn't want to prescribe me anything but suggested I call my MO. I finally gave in and called her today and she prescribed pepcid and zofran. I'm just curious if anyone else experienced this? The radiation staff make me feel bad to even suggest it is caused by radiation but the MO said it could be. And when I said my mouth feels awful and greasy she said that was from the radiation. ...confused! And feeling like I shouldn't tell anyone because they think I'm supposed to be ok.
-
ForHisGlory-I'm sorry you've been having those issues. Nausea sucks. Hopefully your RXs will take care of it. I can't say I had any of those SEs. The only thing I encountered was skin irritation and peeling during the last week. Once I started the boosts, that began to heal, and after 4 days of being totally done I was back in my bra.
-
First about the implants - I have them and they seem to be doing fine so far (RO said they would be OK) I have an appointment with PS in January to make sure about it. I can't feel or see any changes. I seem to be a quick healer with few issues so who knows, it might be one of those long term issues that won't be seen until six months from now.Yeah to you, Hope50. It really was wonderful getting up this morning knowing that I did not have to go into the donut today. Wednesday will be a great day for you!
ForHisGlory _ I took Pepcid am and pm the entire time I was on chemo to settle an acid stomach that made me nauseous. It certainly works. My RO says that if something started during radiation treatments, it might be from radiation. Just smile at the doubters, and say "Okay, whose going to fix it?"
-
Hi ForHisGlory,
I think I wrote back to someone before about this, not sure if it was you.
Please review anything new you are doing or taking (besides the radiation).
any meds, prescribed or otc. any new soaps, lotions, etc. , new foods, drinks (like new tea, etc.).
At the same time as the radiation begins, I know I needed new soap, lotions, etc.
Once in the past I took medicine that caused a metallic taste. Even just a change from one generic brand to another can cause things.
Just wondering if this could be something else, new food, new brand of something you are using and not agreeing with.
