Hello ... new here ... I had a mammogram on Wednesday of this week. I had to go back the next day for more pictures and ultra sound. My BI-RADS was category 5. Friday I saw my family doctor, she said it didn't look good. I have to do a needle biospy on Wednesday and my doctor has contacted a surgeon for me to see him stat. I'm waiting for someone to wake me up and tell me this is a dream. I'm trying to stay positive, but you'll are right the waiting is hard. The mass that was found is the size of an Peanut M & M according to the nurse. I have suspicious microcalcifications too.

As much as this feels like the ultimate roller coaster ride, your doctor is doing you a favor to get all the experts lined up as fast as possible.  There will be less time between the 'suspect is wrong' point and the time when you know if anything is wrong.  And the less time, the less time to be totally stressed out.  I'm sorry you're going through this as I know what it feels like.  My best advice is to try to take your mind off it whenever you can and be kind to yourself.  Easier said than done, I know.

Dear Sophie14, sorry you had to come here but glad you found us.

Waiting times between each stage is very stressful, and as Winning said, having your appointments lined up will help immensely.

We still hope for benign results for your biopsied, as that is the only point where they can truly determine B9 or if not what is problem.

Out thoughts are with you but do some reading on www.breastcancer.org as knowledge is powerful when understanding what the doctors are saying. Try taking a look at the Breast Cancer 101 section from the main
    site.

Sophie, I have developed a slightly outside-the-box way of thinking about the waiting times... they actually don't have to be stressful, if you can think of each waiting period as a "time out" -- a "vacation" from worry -- because your worry serves no purpose, and instead of thinking obsessively about the "what-ifs" you can decide instead to relax into the knowledge that whatever is happening with your body is just plain happening... and that you are in competent hands, getting the best of care, and right now, just finding out the necessary information to make your choices later.

Yes, there will be decisions to be made once you know what is up... but RIGHT NOW there is no decision to make.

Right now you might try to just enjoy your life to the fullest. Go see a movie. Go take a walk. Go do ANYTHING that you love to do... bubble bath, candle-light dinner, lunch with girlfriends, where you just have fun and set the worry aside for now.

Some people may say "it's HARD to not worry" -- but honestly, it is just one of your many many many choices. You can choose to worry, or you can read a good book. You can choose to worry, or you can sit in the back yard with the sun on your face and listen to the birds and feel the wind in your hair. You can choose to worry, or you can look up into the night sky and lose yourself in the stars... So many choices other than 'worry'!

Plenty of time for decision making later-- once you know for sure what is happening.

But "waiting" doesn't have to be "hard" if you can view it from a new perspective -- as a brief respite -- like you have permission to "skip school" for a day or too -- My advice is to 'play hookie' as hard as you can, girlfriend! :)

Wishing you good news on Wednesday... and remember that you have the power to ask for a second opinion... the first surgeon (if you need one) may not always be the right fit for you. Quick treatment is good -- but you can slow things down if you need to.

This is your body, and your experience, you can remain in control of your choices.

    Linda
