I believe it means your cancer wasn't genetically linked to the BRCA 1 or 2 gene, if the results were positive it could mean an increase of other cancers..like ovarian.  Someone more knowledgable may jump in here soon and have more to say. My Dr told me it was a good thing too but I don't think getting cancer just by chance is better than a genetic link, I think knowing (or a high chance of) why I got cancer would help me sleep better.

It means you can probably keep your ovaries for now, which is good in the sense that you won't be thrown into menopause immediately. I am negative too, and while I'm pretty sure there's a faulty gene somewhere, it's not this particular one. It also means you *can* keep the non-affected breast, as officially there's no benefit to removing it according to all the studies (whereas there is for BRCA+ carriers). But these are things to talk about with your doctor.

Right now I'm looking at a lumpectomy in one breast, but if BRCA tests are positive the surgeon is recommending a double mastectomy-so I'm pretty sure this (negative BRCA) is a good thing for you (it's what I'm hoping for) and a good thing for your daughters if you have them, since this test is all about genetics. If you don't have defective BRCA genes you can't have passed them to your children.
