Lupron injection site issues - swelling/itching etc

My last two Lupron injections have left me with a large lump at the site that stays warm and itchy for several days after like a massive mosquito bit.  I still have the tiniest of knots there on the left side from over a month ago, got the one this past week on my right hip and it is kind of driving me crazy.  Never reacted like this to my Neulasta or the B12 shot I get monthly, or my yearly flu shots, so it's not an injection specific issue.  Oddly enough, I had no reaction to my first shot.

I asked the nurse about the swelling and lump and was told it was a normal reaction due to tissue trauma (it's a pretty big needle and I don't have a skinny butt). 

I get these monthly right now, so I'd like to know if I can use a cream or something on the site without harming absorption or causing more problems.  Planning to ask the pharmacist but thought others might have some tips.
