Hi All,

I was wonder what is the optimal time to start chemotherapy?  I have a date set for Nov 18th, which is about 10 weeks after my surgery.  Is it more beneficial for me to start it earlier?

Thanks.

ceci, when I did chemo back in 2008, a study around that time had concluded that there was no difference in outcomes for those who started chemo up to 12 weeks from their last surgery.  But as I was looking for a link to that study for you just now, I came across a newer, retrospective study that reaches a somewhat different conclusion:   http://www.onclive.com/publications/obtn/2014/Mar...

Here's the older study that is often still quoted:  http://www.jwatch.org/oh200611060000001/2006/11/0...

I guess the bottom line is, it's always best to start as soon as you can, and not delay for any reason other than healing from surgery, etc.

Thank you dlb832!  The article was very help and it validated what I was thinking.  I will speak with my Dr. again and push to have my chemotherapy as soon as possible.
