is there anyone that has had this happen? I had stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma with 2 positive nodes in March 2014 . The biopsy at the time showed estrogen +\ progestrone +\ her2 -. I'm fitness competitor and in the best shape of my life and was prepping for a show, I decided with oncologist to do chemo first , so 4 rd of red and cytoxin double dose every 2 weeks and 4rds taxitol double every 2 weeks! It worked amazing . I just did surgery nipple sparing / skin sparing masectomy and had 3 nodes removed . When full pathology came back the results on the her 2 was 90% neg 10% positive ! I been told I have to do 6 weeks radiation which I knew but now I have been told 52 weeks herceptin! Just curious about how many people this happens to , I was kinda shocked when she told me cause , I didn't expect to hear you have to do this every 3 weeks for a year;(

Hi Shuler, and welcome to Breastcancer.org!

You'll soon get responses from other members here but, until then, we wanted to suggest you check out these this article from the main Breastcancer.org site where you'll find reliable information on this type of cancer and its treatment.

    We hope this helps!

Just a quick response as I need to get ready for work. Herceptin is nothing SE wise compared to AC taxol etc. It does come with potential long term SE's (read up on it) however, it doesn't really cause major day-to-day issues for most. I get a bit achy and have a runny nose. No tummy issues, no hair loss etc. It's a time commitment, but not a real life changer (except for the positive in that it gives you life :) I didn't have the tumor type change. Ohters can speak to that. Good luck and hugs as you wrap your head around this.

If I was in your situation, I would probably get a second opinion.  But if you truly need Herceptin, then it's a blessing that they figured that out, because without it your risk of recurrence would be much higher.  But the way it was explained to you -- 90% negative 10% positive -- is a bit unusual, so I would want a second opinion, just to be sure you head down the right path from here.

Good luck, and let us know if you find out anything further.  (((Hugs)))  Deanna

Shuler, I have no idea where you're located, but have you gotten an opinion at an NCI-designated cancer center?  They're listed here:  http://cancercenters.cancer.gov/cancer_centers/ma...

As far as the anaphylaxis shock, I'm so sorry that happened to you.  That must have been terrifying.  Did they slow the Taxotere way down after the first time that happened?  Or switch you to Abraxane?

I live in columbia sc,  I was getting double doses and it happened 2 round 5 min in and 4 rd  3 min in which was my last . I will say I had done  4 rds of cytoxin and red chemo double doses of both every 2 weeks for 2 months then 4 rd taxitol same way so 8 rds total April to July !  I had more issues with taxitol than the red , the pain was horrible and muscle issues and I had that going on with that nuelasta shot aswell!
