Periodical Checkups After the Treatment

Hi,

If someone had breast cancer in one of the breast and treated, do hospitals usually do only Mammography and MRI for the remained breast annually after that, or do they check other parts of the body as well?

I had breast cancer in one of my breast and had surgery, chemo, radiation for several years ago. After that, I had Mammography and MRI for the remained breast every year. The cancer has not recurred to the remained breast, but MRI taken this year showed a part of tumor in the liver. Then the hospital checked my abdomen and found out that it metastasized to other areas like lung, liver and already became large. If MRI did not show the part of liver cancer, I would have died without knowing it. I am wondering if that checkups were proper screening or not.

Also, I am wondering if I could request the hospital to check everywhere possible to become cancer periodically from now on.

Thanks

Hi Monica, so sorry to hear everything you have gone through. I do think it is your right to ask  or request more.... But we trust our doctors are doing what's best, they are the experts. I am recently out of all my treatments and are wondering at all the same things. Which tests should we be asking for to be proactive. I do want to thank you for posting, as I will now be asking more, to be proactive

I say ask away for any tests you want ,put yourself first . Thank you and Hugs
