Osteoporosis treatment may also benefit breast cancer patients

Treatment approaches to reduce the risk of bone metastasis associated with breast cancer may be one step closer to becoming a reality. According to a study, findings show that medication used to treat bone deterioration in post-menopausal women may also slow skeletal metastasis caused from breast cancer. This study is among the first to link bisphosphonate use with improved survival in women with breast cancer.

Thank you for posting this article.  I was diagnosed with osteoporosis this week and am concerned about the possibility of interaction between the AI I am on and the bisphosphonates I will be prescribed.  The abstract does not say whether those women were on AIs.  Do you have access to the full article? Thank you

I found this link on their university website which is about the same article.  I know there are numerous patients here including myself taking AIs who had Zometa infusions.  In my situation the oophorectomy plus AI caused my osteopenia follow-up with Zometa ......  You could try contacting someone at their site to ask specific questions.

Just wanted to thank cp418 for all of the wonderful research news she brings to us. I am 6 years out and still have the recurrence worry. I am a busy lady so don't have time to spend on doing research. I browse this sight often and feel I keep current. Thank you cp418 for the great job you do!
