What is your regimen to prevent nausea?

Options

I started my AC treatment last Thursday after I did 12 weeks of Taxol.  Unfortunately I was hit hard with nausea by the AC.  My doctor gave me Emend and Aloxi during treatment, but even as the drugs were infusing I could feel the nausea / stomach pain beginning.  For after treatment I alternated Zofran and compazine every four hours (I also take 40mg of protonix twice daily), but was still completely devastated by the amount of nausea a I suffered.  I used these meds for 5 days and then was able to manage the queasiness without them.

My next treatment is in one week and I'm hoping I can get some advice from other ladies who have suffered through such terrible nausea.  I have 3 kids (13, 11 and 6).  I was unable to take care of them or function at all for those 5 days,

So what  do you take to prevent/ control your nausea?

I am so sorry you are having bad nausea.  Everyone is different, but 2 things you have not mentioned that worked for me were the steroids the night before the treatment and Phenergan.

I am sure there will be more suggestions and hope you can find some relief.

Zofran is completely ineffective for me and caused a headache, so I switched to Compazine which worked a lot better for me.  It is possible that the Zofran is actually not working for you either.  I would ask about receiving extra fluids the day after your infusion with additional steroids (Decadron) added, and also a Sancuso patch - it is a skin patch that gives you longer lasting anti-nausea relief.  I have a good friend who used both techniques during the AC portion of her chemo with good success.

Ok so I have been through chemo and I have to tell you that the zofran, Ativan, steroids and so on, yes they worked, they worked on not making you vomit but don't help with nausia. I also had a 4 month old baby and a six year old...I'm gonna just say that marijauna made all the difference in the work I'm not sure if you are anti-pot but I went right out bought a vaporizer and my problems were solved. Again the zofran and all the antiemetic Med's do work but like I said they don't help with the nausia, when you turn your head and are spinning you just want to vomit so bad but you can't because they have made you vomit free. It works you will actually want to eat. Trust me. It works no lie.

Unfortunately, I live in a Iowa and medicinal marijuana is not allowed.  Otherwise, I would do it in a heart beat!  You're right, I don't vomit, but the nausea is truly unbearable.  I have two treatments left and I'm praying that they go by quickly!  Thanks for the advice!   Really wishing I lived somewhere that I could get marijuana!

it's not legal here either, but my SIL offered to get me some. I don't know from where, didn't ask, and didn't try. But seems it's available if you try hard enough.

Have any high school age, or young people in your family? They probably know how to get it.
