Complications with DIEP flap reconstruction

Hi

I had a DIEP flap 2 weeks ago in Hamilton, i removed all my drains last week but now my breasts are very hard, specially under my arm are as hard as stone...went to ER and they said it is not infection as I don't have any fever. I also called my ps and he said we have to waite for a week and see how it goes. Does anyone have a simillar experience? And know what it going on?

Hello Far.  My surgery was 2 weeks ago as well.  I have some areas that seem hard to me as well, above the breasts and to the left and right of the breasts, near my underarms.  I saw my PS a couple of days ago and he said it's swelling, and to be expected.  

The information the moderators posted it really good too.  The color and temperature of the flaps is very important as well.  My PS also told me if the flaps were going to fail it usually occurs very soon after surgery.  Like within 72 hours.  We are past that point thank goodness!

I had flap surgery on 10/17 I too am experiencing lots of hardness and swelling.  Both breast are hard, yesterday they seemed to be softening some but today they are hard again.  Still lots of swelling underarms,  PS says this is normal and to give it time. Feel like I have a 6 pack of socks under each arm.

Luvbug -- Still experiencing hardness.  It comes and goes.  NOT pleasant.  Feels like a picture frame surrounding each breast.
