Anyone retire early? Any regrets?

I am all done with work on Oct 17th. I am so excited.

No regrets! I taught and I loved it but it was college math and I did so much writing on the board and now my shoulders are killing me most days.  If I hadn't got this crappy cancer I would still be doing it but even though you are not stage IV like myself, thankfully you are not, you should do what makes you happy.  If you can retire now and you won't be bored (I having a feeling you won't be bored), live and love life and do all of the things that your heart desires, right?  For some people, work is the thing that they love and that is fine too.  Best wishes to you.

I can retire from teaching in 4 years. I can't wait! I love teaching but there is way too much stress that goes along with my job.

Another teacher here (1st grade). Save for my initial medical leave, I was back in the classroom as soon as of could be. I get so much satisfaction and positive energy from my work that, at this time, I would miss it too much. Besides, I do have some pretty good chunks of time off to pursue other things. I figure that when it's time to retire, I'll know it. Teaching 6 year old also helps me sleep very well!

Congratulations on your retirement.  This topic is so timely for me too.  I have been an executive for more years than I care to claim.  I was diagnosed in late 2012 and spent most of 2013 in active treatments while working.  But this year, we have pressed the reset button and I will be retiring in the next few weeks, moving across the country to be near family, and just basically making a huge life change.  i am approaching this change the same way I approached all the treatment decisions I had to make.  No regrets and no looking back.

Thank you, Meow....we should start a thread called "Retired but Still Kicking"  and encourage posters to have fun, relax, live healthfully, enjoy life and share with others/give back.  And recognize that this beast of a disease is life-changing!   All the best to you. Don't look back!
