CPP/QPP when not Stage 4 and other financial help

Hi,

I've been on EI since surgery in June. As we all know this is only for 15 wks...ridiculous. I think I will be denied LTD coverage at work because I had the biopsy done 1 day before I started my new job. I didn't know about pre-existing conditions! Welcome to insurance world! I might apply on anxiety/stress and see where that goes. 

Can someone get CPP or QPP in quebec if you are stage 4? 

Is there any other financial help out there for us?

I had rotten luck, switching jobs during diagnosis(docs thought it was nothing....I had to push for biopsy to calm myself down), but I'm sure people switch jobs without having critical illness insurance privately, is there anything out there that protects people in this situation in Canada?

You can get CPP (don't know anything about QPP, sorry) after a stage iv dx. There is about a 3 month wait before you start receiving any payments though, so be aware of that.

Hi DD,

If you have Stage 4 breast cancer, you can get the Disability Pension from the Régie des rentes du Québec. There is a four-month waiting period from the time that you are deemed disabled, which should be the date when you were diagnosed.

There is also the Kelly Shires Financial Assistance Program of the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, they provide financial assistance to women and men with breast cancer.
