My mom's doctor says that her tumor is inoperable. It was huge, about the size of an orange but has shrunk to the size of a pea with taxol/carboplatin. The question now is, why are they not doing a lumperectomy on her? He said that it will likely never go away completely, but why not just take it out?

We are sorry to hear about your mom's cancer, and what you are all going through. Have you had this conversation with her treatment team? Perhaps it is worth sitting down all together to discuss, and even get a second opinion if you are still unsure.

We are thinking of you both,

I would follow what the moderators suggest and keep in mind that there are 2 schools of thought on this, the first being that since the cancer has spread it is not necessary to take the tumor out but others believe that if you take it out there is less tumor load and that is better.  You can find other threads on this subject and do some research for yourself.  If your mom wants it out should ask for it be taken out but ask the doctors for all the particulars if they do remove it.
