Is Flax Seed Lignan Extract safe for ER positive breast cancer?

Hi everyone,

I take a supplement that contains 200 mg of Flax Seed Lignan Extract included. The last time my blood was tested, my estradiol level was very high.  That was before I started taking this supplement. Do we have any new news as far as flaxseed if it is good for ER+ PR+ breast cancer? If you have any answers from your naturopath, please update this forum and share your information. I will test my blood in a few months to see my levels again. Thanks.

I think we need to be careful about differentiating between flax seed and an extract that possibly could be much more potent than an average serving of ground flax, for example.   Although I haven't read all of the linked articles, it makes me think of soy, as an example -- probably good for us in moderation in its natural form (e.g. organic tofu or soy milk), but an absolute no-no as soy protein isolate.      Deanna

I think like Soy we will find conflicting information.  My nutritionist supports taking Flaxseed.  The oil is not mentioned.

My integrative doc prescribes Concentrated Flax Lignans (ground flax seeds) for any type of breast cancer. He states that this inhibits the cancer blood supply. He also strongly advocates the use of Iodine as it has a central role in metabolizing any circulating estrogens into their least harmful forms. (less estrone and more of the protective estrogen: estriol)

I take 2 forms: iodine and iodide (both in the I-Throid brand) in addition to a few drops of iodine

I take 400 mg a day. I'm not on any other anti-estrogen therapy. (cannot handle the side effects)
