PET scan and insurance

I have been diagnosed with triple negative cancer and am doing chemo before a lumpectomy. My brain surgeon ordered a PET scan but my insurance is not approving it. I meet my oncologist for the first time tomorrow. Don't know if I should push the insurance or let it ride.

    okkim - I've never had a PET scan but I can't imagine your brain surgeon can't convince/justify you having one. Does he/she know insurance won't approve? I would certainly let him know. Sometimes it's just a matter of coding. Good luck!

    Your breast surgeon needs to contact your insurance company and medically justify the scan.  It can be done.

    Remember, many times the insurance company (i.e., staff person) will routinely  deny the approval in the hopes they are not resubmitted.
