Pain from Sentinel Lymph Node Removal
I'm almost 3 weeks post op BMX with sentinel lymph node removal on the left side. I had immediate reconstruction with expandable permanent implants.
The underarm and mid side/rib cage area where the nodes where removed (also the cancer side) feels vastly different than the right. It's sore, tight, feels but doesn't look swollen, feels like it's stuffed with something, just very odd. Range of motion is also limited more than right. I've spoken with BS and PS and both repeatedly say it's normal and attributed to the node removal. It makes the implant expansion on that side feel even tighter.
Anyone else experience this? I hope it subsides soon.

So sorry you are still in such discomfort 3 weeks from surgery. I had SNB done on both sides but oddly it was the prophylactic side that developed cording. I bet it's hard to pinpoint exactly what is causing your pain. My pain and cording improved when I got serious about doing the exercises. It will hurt in the beginning but you will see your range of motion improve in just 2 days. Make sure you are cleared for the exercises first. Hope you feel better soon!

inks, what is cording and how do you know if you have it?

sunny - don't know where you are in FL - I am in Tampa so if you need some info for this area just send me a PM, but it might be a good idea to ask for a referral to physical therapy. It is important to go somewhere with certified lymphedema therapists so that they don't do more harm than good. They can help with range of motion issues and feeling of tightness/cording. Here is an informational link although many experience cording that is relatively mild:

SunnyC-I had the same issue on the left side (cancer side) also. I only had one node removed. I developed cording also. Range of motion was not as good as right couldn't get a pullover shirt on etc.I started PT 2x a week with a Lymphedema therapist. I needed a script for insurance to cover. You can get from plastics or your surgeon. The therapy has helped tremendously. I can put a shirt on now!!!
Good luck!!!

Thanks ladies. It is def hard to describe this pain/feeling. I have tried a couple of times with my PS but again he thinks it's normal. Will try again tomorrow and also with my oncologist when I see her next. I do believe I need some PT.
SpecialK, I'm on the east coast between WPB and Ft Lauderdale.
