As some of you may have seen, I am not comfortable with just mammo for follow-up, and my first follow-up is due now.  I'd like occasional MRIs, but am not even trying for that.  I want screening ultrasounds along with my screening mammos, especially because I was sent the informing letter telling me that up to 50% of BCs may not be seen in my case with mammogram because of my dense breast tissue.  As I expected, when I told my MO I'd like US in addition to mammo, she told me my HMO does not do that for follow-up, and they are following the government gidelines (which seriously need to be updated), and that is true; they are following the minimum guidelines.  I have seen here, though, that many of you get US yearly with your mammos.  I would like to be able to go in with a list of insurance companies, HMOs, etc. that do provide screening ultrasound along with mammo for follow-up after BC, even without a family history.  Please, please give me the insurance company name and state, either right here or in a private message, so I can have something to counter them with, to show the places I know that go beyond the bare minimum requirements.  They have already tried to back up their position by naming one local other insurance that does not provide the US.  I need a list to back up my own position.  I'd really appreciate it.  Thanks - P. xx

    Hello Percy,

I am with Aetna.I am not on an HMO plan.  I get diagnostic mamos/ultrasound every 6 months.  I also have very dense breasts and no family BC history.  This is covered, but only after I meet my huge deductible and only at 80%.  And since I am fortunate not to have tons of medical problems, I usually pay about 100% because I don't always meet my deductible.   Unfortunately because my mamos are diagnostic they are not the 100% covered screening mamos.
