I have been told by a couple of breast cancer survivors, they experienced burning sensation as part of there healing process.  They were doing natural remedies.  But I have heard of pain being associated with this process. Anyone else?

Inga, in my case not from natural remedies, but from chemo. I had chemo before surgery and it caused rapid and extensive tumor death. I did have all kinds of odd sensations from that, including some pain. On the other hand, the tumor itself also caused pain (prior to starting treatment). This is because the tumor activity causes inflammation around the tumor site.

Inga, I can't say for sure b/c I'm not exactly sure yet where I'm at (will know in a few days), but I will have cycles of deep burning, almost pain but not quite.  I get really paranoid and start to think the tumor is growing and indeed it does look bigger--but then when it goes down it looks and feels smaller than before.  My holistic doc said I'm doing very well so maybe that's it.  Cancer profile (blood and urine tests) results almost in and I'll know more then.  I have been feeling this pain the last couple of days and it felt like inflammation pain but now today it feels like healing pain.  I'll keep you posted.  Oh and there was a lady who wrote a book about the ketogenic diet and how it cured her cancer and she said the pain was nearly unbearable at times.  That's most of what she did and she dropped dairy too and the tumor went away quite rapidly which may account for the extreme pain.  Mine is taking its time and I'm fine with that as long as it's headed in the right direction.

Piper, will you do any kind of imaging, like ultrasound maybe, in addition to the blood and urine analysis?

Momine, I'm not sure.  My doc doesn't trust thermograms to give the whole picture and ultrasound never picked up on my cx in the first place.  He def doesn't like the ones that use radioactive contrast dye so we shall see.  He seems to trust this cx profile test to give us a good indication of which way it's going and he has the attitude that I could possibly live for years even with the tumor as is.  I'd rather have it gone of course so I'll have to make a decision soon, though if it shrinks slowly I'm fine with that.

The thing that has me really concerned though is that I've been thru some uber stress recently--I started back to my teaching position 3 wks ago and came into a mess, and having my house remodeled at the same time.  Yes I know it's a bad time for that but I was on this man's waiting list for nearly a year.  It wouldn't be so bad except that it's messing up my daily routine of coming home and putting on soft music or Louise Hay and then kicking back and really relaxing.  Oh yes, and menopause symptoms too--hot flashes like crazy, finally, and can't sleep worth a damn. I welcome the menopause--I'm 55 for chrissakes, but the sleeping problems are hell and I fear will interfere with healing.  I was doing so well too.  I've been journaling and that's helping some I think.

Piper, I agree with him on the thermogram. Everything I have read indicates that there is a good reason the method has not gone mainstream.

How was your tumor originally detected? It is weird with the ILC, because it does like to hide.

I am not familiar with the cx profile that you mention. Does it include tumor markers?

Thanks, Momine.  I have heard from other sources as well, recently.  Its a good sign.  When u r doing what I am trying to do, there just isn't a gauge.  Just heard of new cancer test.  Its called onco.  Its a blood test.  Sounds really cool.  I'm trying not to go to fast.  I am off pain meds now.  Oncologist can't believe it.  Able to lift arms overhead.  moving in the right direction.

Inga, the onco test is to determine if chemo will give you any benefit.

Oncotype DX is the full name, if that's the test you're referring to. Genomic Health, the maker of the test, has a lot of good info on their web site.
