I am just wondering if there is anyone out there who had a high risk reoccurance score that opted to NOT do chemo just hormone? How are you doing now?

Meow, I do think there are others - I have seen a few who had scores in the mid 20s who didn't do chemo and seem to be fine, but widespread use of the oncotype is new, so there are not likely to be a lot of people out there, and the timeline is too soon.

meow...my MO counseled me before doing the test.  He made it clear if that I was CLEAR that I wouldn't do chemo even if it came back with a high score, then he would have recommended skipping the test.  I agreed to have the test and it merely confirmed that I didn't need chemo.  That said, Genomics Inc has done post-introduction surveys about how the test has influenced decisions and they have found that when the test disagreed with the basic characteristics of the traditional grading of tumors, in a majority of cases, it DID influence the patient's final decision.  What that means is if doctors and patients were on the fence before doing the OncotypeDX test and they ended up with a high score, in the majority of cases, the patient did choose chemo.  But the data does not indicate that EVERYONE who got a high score did finally agree to do chemo.  So, the answer to your question is you are not alone.  However, you are in the minority.  Likewise, it works the other way as well.  There are patients who received low scores and did chemo.  Again, not many, but a few.

And, since ER tumor recurrences show up usually later, it is too soon to see how those patients with high scores and did not do chemo are doing...

I had a score of 20, which I guess is considered intermediate.  All my docs "swore" it would be low....

My breast surgeon and the onco i fired said 4% or less benefit and they recommended I skip it because the chemo had its own host of ills.  I opted out.

At the time, I was told oncotypeDX showed how well the tumor responded to chemo....at that time, I was not told it would or would not impact recurrence.
