Oh,, mostlymom,,, I LIKE that one !!! -
I don't know who put this poster out or who thought this was an appropriate way to support people who have breast cancer, but they missed the mark completely!!
Aside from the obvious, lack of sensitivity to women who have had to have mastectomies, we have finally begun to gain recognition for Metastatic Breast Cancer Day!! October 13th. Such a sad comment oh how poorly we work together to be sure our message is clear and that our energys aren't wasted because of poor communication & lack of clear, universal message.
-
I put this poster out
Not to support this stupid post
BUT
To make sure no one supports this offensive picture
I hope we r all on the same page and spread the word NOT to give this post any power.
-
thanks, firekracker. i was aware of that day, about a year ago, and frankly, i find it just a bad piece of work that some hellish mind decided that the 13th was the day to do it.that "day" already belongs to women i love who have MBC. now, people will try to start checking out to see who is not wearing one, instead of focusing on the fact that there is just not enough money or help thrown at the metastatic version of this disease.
-
it says "support breast cancer" I for one will never support breast cancer. I'm doing my best to eliminate it.
-
Well said, Lucy!!
-
I'd sure love to know who comes up with these ideas.
Bunch of morons.
-
Actually the more I thought about this, the angrier I got.
I don't participate in Facebook, so I'm pretty oblivious to all that's out there.
I fail to see what going bra-less does to help ANYONE???
Wouldn't a more appropriate campaign be - GO LUNCH-LESS.
Donate the cost of one lunch to BC research.
Now that's something I could get behind.
It's obvious the group that came up with the go-braless campaign have GONE BRAIN-LESS.
-
the more I thought about it the more I got crazed
I SUPPORT BCO
Yeah they saved my butt quite a few times.
I wouldn't ever support BC...
All I'm askin is to tell ur friends and family not to give money or take ur bra off...
-
you go, Slow!!
-
bump
-
it's time to get this word out

HOW THE HECK IS GOING BRALESS GOING TO SUPPORT BREAST CANCER AWARENESS??!! (Yes, I am yelling
). That is stupid, tasteless, immature and completely offensive.
-
I YELL TOO WHEN IT COMES TO THIS STUPID PINKWASHING
PLEASE HELP STOP IT BY SPREADING THE WORD
I HAVE NOW STARTED TO DELEATE ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH FOCKTOBER
AND YES IM YELLING TOO
-
I do not want to come off as insensitive at all and I completely understand where you are coming from with your annoyance and anger with this poster...it is tasteless. However I do want to point out that there are people who believe that underwire bras can either cause or help cancer spread...and for this there is/was a move to have a day when women didn't have to wear bras, or indeed embracing that women don't need or want to wear bras - it is after all a part of our misogynistic/sex-centric society that makes women think they need their breasts to look a certain way so they feel inclined to wear bras...
Whether or not you agree with the studies/books that connect bras to cancer, this is what they say in general...bras reduce lymphatic flow within the breast tissue, especially tight bras and bras with underwires...this reduced lymphatic flow leads to less oxygenation of the cells....cancerous cells thrive in these anaerobic environments and can develop and grow larger in such an environment. Surely not everyone would agree but it's definitely out there for debate...so there could be a legitimate reason to take those bras off and indeed have a national no-bra day.
Now to be completely honest I am a male who became very intersted in the pinkwashing that goes on in October during breast cancer awareness because I think it does more to line the pockets of the rich and has ties to corporate greed and corruption. Let me know how you feel about my comments here and I also recently made a video about the corruption of breast cancer awareness but also included some ways that we can collectively rise above it to create meaningful change and awareness - instead of simply bashing pinkwashing we can actually do some powerful things that will help spread the word about important ways to prevent, detect, and distribute information about this deadly disease.
Here's the video, let me know what you think about it and the rest of my comments - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tn90-eQvrTw&feature=youtu.bethanks,
Matt

Sorry, but that just doesn't cut it for me. That poster is not about reducing risk based on anything scientific; it's gratuitous (and, to me, offensive, though I know not everyone will find it to be). I am tempted to post pictures of myself braless on social media and say, "Hey, look--I go braless every day--of course I also go breastless every day, and it has NOTHING to do with "saving the tatas" (for heaven's sake, are we twelve?!), but with saving the PEOPLE.
-
Hi Matt, I just watched your video and it is very well done. Most of the literature I have read recently disproves that wearing a bra can cause breast cancer.
It is the tasteless issue with that ad that you are in agreement with that is the problem and the fact that we are still loosing @40,000 women/men to this disease each year in the US and @500,000 women/men world wide annually.Thank you for the link to the video.
-
I agree with you that the poster is offensive...originally there was this poster below that was doctored to include the other lines about the tatas and whatnot...I'm still in agreement that this ad about no bra day could be construed as offensive - all I'm trying to get at is that there is a potential reason for going bra-less...maybe if people knew more about the reasons to go bra-less they would be more inclined to make lifestyle choices that aided their health...I think we can all agree that whatever information is delivered should be done tastefully and with respect

http://www.breastcancer.org/questions/brashttp://breastcancer.about.com/od/riskfactorsindetail/a/bras-breast-cancer.htm
These are just two links which discuss how bras are not the cause of breast cancer. I realize that there other articles on the web with the opposite information but I have faith in the sources sited here. Everyone has the right to their own opinion but as the second link states breast cancer was around long before bras were invented.
-
Oct 13th is Metastatic Breast Cancer Day,,,, one day of the whole month and it's also No Bra Day,,,,, really tasteless timing, IMO -
if I see anything about the bras on the 13th I will have to open my mouth
Yes it's metastatic BC day...one damn day is all they get.
That is just so tasteless
If I see anything on bc in pink on FB I DELEATE it...
Not much in the stores lately
Good lets keep it that way
-
Sorry to burst your balloon whoever posted about underwire bras causing BC - my onc told me less than a month ago that that is NOT TRUE, NEVER WAS - she oughta know - after all she is a doctor as well as a professor - guess I'll take her word over yours and btw the poster and the word Ta-Ta's are both disgusting and demeaning - we need money for research and a cure NOW!!!!!
-
and that's the bottom line
Money for research
And
Find a damn cure
