New Microcalcifications
Hello everyone,
I would love to have some advice from you. I was previously dx'd with LCIS/ADH/ALH about 4 years ago. Mammo in February 2014 showed new calcifications, and doctor suggested a "wait and see" approach since I have had many biopsies before and after my LCIS diagnosis and all were either benign or the same thing (ADH/ALH).
I went for a compression mammo on Friday, and the calcifications are still there, and the radiologist strongly suggested a biopsy. She told me that my doctor doesn't always take the recommendations of the radiologist (unlike the other doctors in the breast center), and that he is less aggressive than some other doctors. My doctor's view is still "wait and see" since the calcifications have not changed from February. The radiologist doesn't think it is DCIS, but that she couldn't (wouldn't?) rule anything out.
My question to you is: should I call the doctor and insist on a biopsy, or do I wait for my next mammo in February?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I would find a second opinion. My BS is at a dif hospital than my MO and I would get opinions from both (my mamo center is a third place and I would get all involved)
I am not much for wait and see myself

Covertanjou,
You asked for advice, so here I go!
The radiologist strongly suggested a biopsy and also informed you that your doctor is aggressive and didn't take her recommendation in your case. And it concerns you, so much so that you are questioning what to do. Based on this information, I would opt for the biopsy.
I want as much information, as soon as possible. If it is B9, then I have relieved my anxiety. If it turns out to be something that needs to be addressed, then identifying the issue gives me more options.
I think you may already know what you are going to do. What ever you decide, I wish you good health and relief from the anxiety you are feeling!

I agree with Poppy. I was told Monday I had new microcalcifications since my last mammo in Feb. The radiologist gave me the option of checking again in 6 months or do a biopsy now. I would drive myself insane with worry if I took the "wait and see" approach. So I had a biopsy Fri and am now driving myself insane waiting on pathology results.

Thank you everyone for your advice. Yes, I think I will ask for the biopsy. Since the radiologist was so insistent, I would rather not wait.
savgigi, I hope you do not have to wait long for the results. Keeping my fingers crossed that you get a b9 result.

Thanks, covertanjou. I hope you get good results as well.

savgigi, i am sorry, but your post up there kind of cracked me up, how you would drive yourself insane over the waiting and watching, and now the biopsy results! you sound so much like me, i will drive myself crazy over it too: to biopsy or not. i am so good at driving myself crazy, if anyone else needed directions to crazy, i could tell them in my sleep.
hope it all turns out ok for you and covertanjou.
