L-glutamine for weekly taxol?
just wondering if anybody used l-glutamine for weekly taxol? If so how much and how often? My onco said I could use it when I start taxol which isn't for awhile yet.
Thanks

I'd like to hear others experience with this, too. I'm going to get some tomorrow. My. MO suggested getting the powder. It can be mixed in with water or juice.

I told my onco I was scared of neuropathy with Taxol. She said she is too. Ick

I had Taxotere every 3 weeks (for 6 tx) and used it - had neuropathy that resolved between each tx until #5, then it stayed, but I continued with the L-Glutamine (30g daily in 3 - 10g servings - about a heaping teaspoon dissolved in a cold drink) and all neuropathy resolved by about 90 days PFC. I have a friend who just finished 9 weekly taxols, she has mild neuropathy and used L-Glutamine intermittently. She is only about 5 weeks PFC, so it is hard to say what her status is.

Yes, 30 grams per day while on Taxol a few years ago, now doing the same again while on Taxotere.
It's helpful and there is some good research out there that it is effective. http://clincancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/7/5/1192.full

so would I take it everyday for 12 weeks and longer even on Chemo days? Thanks for the links

Thanks Specialk and Miriam. Ive been confused since I've heard varying reports about how many grams to take and how many times per day. My recollection is that my MO said 10 grams and to only take it the day before and the day of treatment but I was going to ask again. It is four days since my first TH and I am feeling some tingling in hands mostly. I am taking the B6 daily.

I am using it and it seems to be helping. I was told 10g 3x per day for 5 days. I have infusion on Tuesday so take the glutamine Tuesday through Saturday. Sometimes I forget to take it but still feeling some relief.

Thanks, mmtagirl.

thank you I was confused as well. I will run it by my onco when I start. Still have two more a/c treatments left yuck.

My MO had me on prescription grade l-glutamine 10g powder mixed in water 3 X a day. I'm on TCHP and have had to be hospitalized due to severe diarrhea. They even lowered my dose of taxotere.
I'm not sure if it's helping. .. but they told me to keep taking it...

April I finished my taxol treatment and took l-glutamine throughout. I really do think it helped me. I have slight neuropathy but it doesn't affect me. I can feel it in my toes and fingertips but it's more of an annoyance. I also did not have any nails turn funny colors either. Glad your MO has you on it.

I'm getting those tingling feelings in my fingertips. .. and cramps in my feet... I really hope the l-glutamine helps. My oncologist seems to think it can help with the severe diarrhea too...
