Anyone get changed from TAC chemo to A/C + Taxol (weekly)

Just wondering.  I was changed after the first treatment.  My WBC count went very low and I didn't handle the chemo too well.  I think my onco changed it because of the low WBC.  It was .7.   My onco feels this will be easier on me. Do you think so?  She felt the taxotere caused most of the problems.  I'm still scared the A/C is going to knock me flat too.  I did get the neulasta shot, but it didn't kick in until the second week.  My WBC then jumped to 13.

Thanks for any input

Nancy, I had a similar experience.  I started with TC and after the first round was switched to AC for three rounds and am now on weekly taxol for another 6 weeks.  The Taxotere from round 1 landed me in the hospital for 4 days with colitis and neutropenia.  I found the AC much easier to tolerate.  In fact, very few issues with AC.  For me, adriamycin was not the red devil it is for some.  Ok, to be honest, none of this is a walk in the park but we do get through it!

I was on TAC and I do believe TAXOTERE is a harsh drug!  I was never switched but my MO lowered my dosing for that drug 2 x...now I am out of chemo 11 weeks and have neuropathy...just praying it goes away.  Good luck! Rosie

My husband started on TAC- after his first Tx his WBC's tanked and he was in the hospital for 5 days (and he was also getting Neulasta). His MO changed him to just the AC and weekly Taxol was to follow after that. He never had another problem with his blood counts and it seemed a lot easier to tolerate. Never had any more nausea, or anything. Unfortunately after the last AC and before the Taxol was to start he just seemed to go downhill and was then dx with endocarditis (they weren't sure of the cause-possibly the med port which got pulled out immediately, the chemo, who knows). Chemo was on hold for over 6 weeks while we dealt with that. The one positive from all that is our MO didn't want him to receive any more steroids (needed with Taxol) and got our insurance to approve him for Abraxane and he is in the middle of getting that weekly and it is going well. Good luck.

Thank you all. I just hope the AC goes better than TAC and that my WBC doesn't drop as much.  Sheesh  this is no picnic.  I hate it.
