Looks like I am out the door in October via layoff. I am 56 and I am thinking of just retiring early from the company I worked for and not pursuing another full time job. I would love to hear what others have done. I do have a pension & company 401K.

By the way 2 boys in college a freshman and a senior. The senior is financially ok have 2 years savings for tuition & housing for younger one. If I don't live to extravagantly I can get him through husband still works he's 63. He will want to retire at 65 I'm sure.

I actually retired at 44 with a full pension.  4 months later I was diagnosed.  I have no regrets and for me it was a great decision.  I do not miss my 60 hour highly stressful work weeks!

I did return to work just a week ago.  It's two days a week 16 hours.  It gets me out of the house and so far I love it.

I am in Australia, I worked for United Airlines till I was 54 and they made most of us, in Australia, redundant.

I couldn't be happier, being retired since then. We had just moved to our forever home, in a small coastal town, when I was Dx. My days are so full, sometimes I wonder how I ever had time to go to work:) We have a little business, run from home, no stress.

I am planning to retire next month from my high stress job. I'm 59 and just not up to nights on call trying to sleep knowing I could be woken, not good. It started causing meltdowns even before DX. I have 401k and DH still working for a little while. He is 65 but I will take cobra for now so hoping and praying for better health next year!   I have been primary income so its scary but needs to be done.I want to chill for a bit and spend a little time on my photography course then eventually find something part time that is enjoyable and low stress. If I can't find the right job and get cabin fever I may try some volunteer work, perhaps helping at an animal rescue. Dream job would be pet photographer if I can improve my skills ( a lot).
