Hello, a few days ago this mark (not blotchy at all, literally a swath)  that looks as though Ive been burned by a curling iron appeared on my left breast- about 2.5 inches and bright pink. Its not raised, or itchy and if I press on it, it does turn white. It seems to get more red out of the shower. My dr kinda brushed it off and said "its not cancer, but if its still there on Monday we can refer you to a surgeon" I am a little sore but in the arm pit and slight pain in my breast on and off.

Very concerned about IBC. I did have a breast MRI 6 months back but suppose that means nothing when it comes to this cancer.

Any feedback helpful!

IBC is among the least likely of probalities for skin issues.  IBC is rare - only between 1%  and 5% of ALL diagnosed forms of BC.  Developing a 'reddness' in the breast area does NOT equal IBC!  If it did it woukd not be rare but rather be the most common form of BC.  There are so MANY possibilities for skin issues.  Is IBC a remote possibility - of course -  but highly unlikely.

I never had any skin reddness before my IBC DX.  My skin  is usually 'pinker' when I get out of a warm/hot shower - just normal.

See your Dr!  Perhaps an appt with a Dermatologist mighr be in order.  No one here can tell you what is going on only your Drs can.

Thanks for your response. This am there were red lines streaming all over the side where the big red mark is. My husband is when concerned now. My dr gave me the name of surgeons so Ill be calling Monday.

Would a surgeon biopsy first visit?

Different Drs are different.  I can only tell you my experience - we are all unique and there are no 'hard and fast' rules how anything presents.

I developed an enlarged lymph node literally overnight.  My PA was on vacation so it took me a week to see her.  She saw me at 11 and had me to the Radiology Clinic that afternoon at 1 for a new mammo which immediately turned in to a Sono and biopsies.  I had the path report the next morning (Fri) at 8.  I saw my Surgeon on Mon, my Rads Dr on Wed and Chemo Dr on Thurs.

There are so MANY variables and so many possibilities.  IF reddness =IBC then it would  not be as rare as itt is (1%  - 5% of ll DXd If  everyone who developes skin issues on breast and then decide they are IBC  it would be the most common type - not rare).

There are no rules as to how IBC presents itself with all!  I never developed any reddness in the 17 dys between DX and starting neoadjuvant chemo.  No one here can tell you what you are dealing with - only your Dr(s) can.
