Hi there Amber, I was dx with IDC back in 2006. Your a Grade 1? Your fine. They are correct. Try not to worry too much. I know its hard though. Just keep positive and strong. Infiltrating- means "Invasive". Same thing. I am still learning about BC. Ha. It is a forever learning process. Well, I hope everything is going ok for you and moving smoothly.

Amber - I was diagnosed with IDC stage 1 grade 3 back in July.  Stage one is an early stage as the staging goes from 0 - 4.  The grade is based on the aggressiveness of the tumor itself.  So while my cancer was caught early and was small (1.3 cm) and had not gotten to the lymph nodes, the grade was a 3 which is fairly aggressive.  The surgeon did get all of the tumor with clear margins, but because of the aggressiveness of tumor.  My oncotype was also intermediate at a 23 so just as added insurance, I am doing 8 rounds of chemo to get any stray cells that may be out there.

You're doctors are correct - yours was caught early!

    Good luck to you!

Hi girls :) I too have IDC, stage?, grade 3, Hormones are pospositive,  HER2 is negative.  Just had my lumpectomy and SN bx 2 days ago.  Now the wait for Mondays appointment for final path results. Mine was caught early.  8mm and no lymph node involved.  My conern is grade 3. Do they usually push chemo with more aggressive grade?  Anyone with similar case and did your final path change much?

sheeba...with an ER positive HER 2 Negative tumor greater than .5 cm, you should request the Oncotype DX test.  It will tell you if your benefit of chemo will outweigh the risks.  No one knows at face value if a grade 3 tumor warrants chemo without doing the Oncotype DX test.  If you do have the test and your score comes back in the dreaded "intermediate" range...then request the Mammaprint genetic test.

Also, register on the NCCN website and read the professional version (red logo) of the 2014 breast cancer guidelines.  Also read pages 100 and beyond where they discuss Endocrine Therapy. Very  valuable nuggets of info can be found there.  Many of the current clinical trials are discussed.

    Good luck!

Good afternoon everyone. I was diagnosed with IDC in mid November. A core needle biopsy showed a 1cm, Grade I, ER / PR +, Her-2 negative tumor and I had a Lumpectomy on Dec.10 along with a Sentinel Node dissection. All 4 nodes came back negative and all margins were clear and the tumor was deemed a Stage 1.  All along my surgeon was optimistic that Radiation with Hormonal Therapy was the treatment for me, so you can imagine how surprised I was today when I got a call from her office saying that my Oncotype score was in the intermediate range (I don't know the exact number but will find out next week at my 2nd post op appointment). My Dr is setting me up with a OM, but I must admit this kind of took the wind out of my sails. Btw...I never had a Ki-67 done...does anyone think this is a necessary predictor?

Thanks in advance for any info you can impart!

into....request the Mammaprint test. That might give you additional info. Furthermore, you don't say if you are pre or postmenopausal. That affects treatment plan as well. Some premenopausal sisters benefit from ovarian suppression and an aromatase inhibitor. Good luck!

I am post menopausal...and hormone therapy is still on the table...I just wasn't prepared for the possibility of chemo.

Neither was Intothewoods. Before my lumpectomy I was told just radiation and hormonal therapy - um no. I had one positive node and LVI. I just wanted to tell you that if you do have to go the chemo route it wasn't as horrible as I thought for me. Hang in there.

yes...so was I. I know nothing is guaranteed but when you hear over and over that "everything looks really great" and "if you are going to get cancer, this is the one you want"...it kind of spins you around when the "numbers" turn out to be not so great!

    Thanks for the encouragement!
