Hi lovely ladies,

I am going to DF for treatment (when I get treatment- I'm still scheduling) does any one have surgeons they recommend? I love the oncologist that I had a consult with but the surgeon and I had trouble communicating and I don't want any chances of miscommunication. or added confusion at this point.

Thanks for your time all!

    Hi

I was treated at Dana Farber, but had my lumpectomy at MGH-- I highly recommend Dr. Barbara Smith at MGH…. they are all part of Partners so it should not be complicated….

Harrysmom - do check to see where the surgery by Dana Farber surgeon you choose is actually performed, it might very well be at a different hospital. Double check with your insurer when you are making your arrangements. My friend went to Dana Farber from out of state for a second opinion several years ago with the approval of her insurance and she chose to have her surgery done by the Dana Farber surgeon but the approval didn't cover surgery at a different hospital. this might not be an issue for you because you are in MA and she was not.........still

My sister was treated at Dana Farber but had her surgeries at Faulkner.  Her surgeon was Dr. Nahklis and she was happy with her.

Dr. Susan L. Troyan is my surgeon. While she hasn't done the surgery yet (I'm getting neo-adjuvant chemo first), I've had wonderful interactions with her and trust her implicitly. I've also heard great things about Dr. Duggan and many of the surgeons that affiliate with Dana. Yes, Dana Farber is not a "hospital" which means that your surgery will be done at the surgeon's admitting hospital, but they are all a stone's throw from the Dana campus. I didn't have problems with insurance, but again could be because I am in MA. I just had my primary do referrals for each member of my onco team.

Thank you so much for the recommendations! I forgot that I need to make sure the surgeon's hospital was on my plan. Ladies, thank you!

Dr. Troyan is an amazing surgeon--I have three friends who adored having her as a surgeon. I used a different surgeon due to scheduling and although that doctor was also good, I wonder if things could have been better.  My DF oncologist and radiologist and plastic surgeon, on the other hand, are all quite amazing.  Shoot me a PM and I'm happy to give you the names.

Dana Farber surgeries involving breast reconstructive surgery are general done at Faulkner, but Faulkner is owned by Brigham/Womens, so I'm surprised to hear that insurance differentiates...

Thanks Hildy! I tried to get in to see her but she's booked. I'm ok with the surgeon I now have and my plastic surgeon at Faulkner is beyond awesome.

Dr. Troyan is wonderful. My surgeon, Dr. Mary Houlihan who is at the Beth Israel, is absolutely fabulous as well. I am extremely happy with her surgical skills, as well as her personal ones. Boston is lucky to have such choices.

I was recently diagnosed. I am going to DF and I chose Dr Nahklis...glad to hear others had success with her. She will be doing my double mastectomy August 20th at Brigham and Womens

Wow! I'm just feeling ok about my surgeon, not great. I may see if I can switch to Dr. Nahkilis if it doesn't delay the process too much. I'm glad everyone has had a good experience with her.
