unusual question about chemo

I have a male friend who will be starting chemo this week for breast and prostate cancer. I'm not sure which meds he will be getting. His wife has asked me a few questions that I don't know the answers to.  I have Paget's and didn't go thru chemo.

Is it recommended that he flush the toilet twice so that any chemo particles definitely go down the drain?

and can chemo residue be passed in seminal fluid? Not that they will probably feel like having sex, but she was just wondering if that was possible.

I did suggest that she ask at the doctor's, but I thought I'd ask over here also!

Thanks!

I was told to flush twice for the first 48 hours after chemo.   I was also told that chemo clears the body in those 48 hours and no sex during that time.  She should talk to his doctor to get definite answers.

My DH and I were advised to use a condom during chemo - I have had a hyst/ooph so this was for exposure only. Was not advised to flush twice, but I have read that.

This is just my personal opinion, but after seeing, what are basically haz-mat outfits, that the chemo nurses wear, I'd take every precaution I could. I used a seperate bathroom altogether during chemos. Not something I wanted my kids exposed to. There are some chemos out there that stay in your body a lot longer than 48 hours. Usually the ones mixed with a liposomal agent...myocet for instance. Besides, I'm not sure anyone, including the oncology field, knows for sure. Why risk it.

When I did A/C,  I was told no intimate contact with Hubby for 72 hrs.  Was not told this on Taxol.  I was also told to wash the clothes I wore in those 72 hr in s?eperate loads.

The best person to answer questions is the Dr.
