I just met with the surgeon for my one week post-op appt.  He staged my cancer as 2aN0M0.  I am in the 'gray' area as to chemotherapy in addition to radiation therapy and will meet with an oncologist next week.  My tumor ended up being larger than originally thought.  We thought it was 1.9 mm, but it is actually 2.5 cm (2.2 x 2.1 are the other measurements not at the fullest part).  Clear margins, grade 2.  I am ER+, but PR- and HER2- (was an equivocal, but FISH determines 1+ negative).  I am awaiting Oncotype DX.  My initial CA 27.29 was at 17.1 on surgery day one week ago.

Any of you here with the same diagnosis?  What treatment have you been on?  Did you need chemo? Thanks for sharing your experience.

Did you have any positive nodes?

I have the same DX: IDC, stage 2A, grade 2, 3cm, ER+/PR+, Her2-.  I was node negative.  Had a UMX, no radiation.  MO was on the fence about chemo due to younger age and tumor size, but when my OncotypeDX came back an 8 she said definitely no chemo needed.  I am now taking Tamoxifen.

I have no positive node.  I had clear margins within 6mm.  Encouraging to hear that I might not have to have chemo.  I will do it if I need to be gone so to speak, but really would hate to miss so much work (I work in a high germ environment so I would be stunned if they let me work every day).  I will concentrate on this positive note and hope my Oncotype comes in low.  It didn't spread, so maybe...of course, spread/metast doesn't really play into the Oncotype test.

May I suggest you register at the NCCN's website and read the professional version (red logo) of their breast cancer treatment guidelines.  Also read footnotes and discussion on the last 50 or so pages.  You don't mention your menopausal status.  If PREmenopausal, research the TEXT and SOFT breast cancer trials.

    Good luck!

    Hi

for what it is worth, my dx was much like yours-- ILC, 2 over 2 cm, clear margins, no nodes.... my oncotype came back in the gray area.... so, I did do chemo---4 rounds over 8 weeks-- worked through most of it... I think the oncotype is a great test.... but when it is in the gray area, the decisions get harder.... but I have young children, so it took me about a minute to make a decision.. I was pre-meno- but could not tolerate tamoxifen- so I did lupron/letrozole combination--just went off letrozole in June.... 5.5. years out.

Hopefully you will have a very low onco score that will eliminate this worry altogether.....
