I know I should stay away from Google, but I am having a hard time doing that. I have mixed type carcinoma (ductal & lobular) and am doing chemotherapy right now. I just read a study that claims people with ILC or mixed type do not usually respond to chemotherapy and actually do worse than when they just do hormonal therapy. I also saw this mentioned on the Johns Hopkins site where questions are answered by an oncology nurse.

Why in the world would oncologists make patients do adjuvant chemo if it is not going to work and may make things worse? Can any of you with mixed type tell me if you believe chemo helped you? I was finally getting used to this diagnosis and feeling more hopeful and then read this. Thank you.

i had lobular, not mixed, and I am sorry to say that I think you are asking the impossible as we never know what actually helped us.......have you asked your Oncologist for statistical benefits of chemo for you?

Thanks so much for your reply, Lily. I think you are right, no one can answer my question. My MO  just said that you treat mixed carcinoma as ductal. Then I saw the study and read an answer on Johns Hopkins Message board that mixed does not benefit from chemo. So is it being used because it benefits the IDC part of my tumor? I Just can't figure it out and I don't get to see my MO for another few weeks. I feel like I am wasting my time and suffering for nothing.
