Diagnosed two weeks ago! Jumping through all the medical hoops and surgery Monday, having a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node surgery! Scared and nervous! Trying to learn all of this and figure it out in a cram course of BC 101 but is overwhelming! Can't sleep going nuts reading so many things and comparison stories. Any suggestions?

register at the NCCN's website and read the professional version (red logo) of the breast cancer treatment guidelines.  Read footnotes and discussion section too.  Once you have your surgery and get your final pathology report, you should be prepared to follow-up with the medical oncologist and find an active treatment plan that's right for you!  Good luck!

    Hi Parks,

Sorry you are here, but you are in a good place. My advice would be to stay away from Dr. Google. He is old and out-of-date and will scare the bejeezers out of you.

Also, don't be afraid to ask your doctor for anti-anxiety and/or sleeping medication. It's perfectly understandable that your mind is racing and that you cannot sleep.

I'll be in your pocket on Monday when you have your surgery. You will get through this!

Parks - sorry that you join us here, but glad you found this excellent site and threads.

Breathe, you are in the most difficult stage...1st diagnosed and waiting :( so difficult.

    Read through this sites info on understanding your dx and lumpectomy & SND procedure...than breathe.  You can do this...we will be in your pocket {{{squeeze}}}

Don't go to Mr Goggle ihavecanceiamgoingtodie! Stay here and prepare. Do not get ahead of yourself and rehearse something that you may never have to do...stay focus on today!

Setup a file for all your medical records and carry with you.  Select an appointment buddy, you will need a second set of ears, shoulder, and supporter.  Visit your BC center and determine what services are available for you and go!  Many have support groups, exercise, social worker, massage, mediation...find out and go...I think it helps to be with others that get it and are thriving!  Make 3 copies of all your question dr, you, appt buddy and make sure you feel heard and are comfortable with the answers.  Than go to walmart and get yourself a front zip sports bra at least 2X larger and front zip/button tops...breathe.

Another deep breathe, go get your hair cut colored, medi pedi, take a few fun pics, and gather your family and friends...gather in the things that make your heart sing! You got this:)))

Join us in the Lumpectomy Lounge!  Ask questions...day of lx&snd wear yoga pants, zip hoody, flip flops, and full pockets...we will be there for you.  Best part is after procedure you will be surprise how the haze lifts and you feel so much better!  Watch the arm, you most likely will only need pain meds the 1st 24-36 hours and than Tylenol...take something for constipation...better safe than sorry...and most important confirm with BS when and how you will receive results of margins&nodes!  Now breathe:)))

    Sending calm confident thoughts&prayers!

    (((Hugs)))

    Cindy

    Parks,

    sorry we are both here...

i just joined, but was reading discussions. good to know each of us is not alone is this post-diagnosis madness.

my biopsy came with the dreadful outcome on June 10th. I'm still in denial/disbelief stage. Not crying but not sleeping either. Going to fight it. I happen to be working in one of the best hospitals in the country (analyzing cancer genomics data. more on that later).

Still scared. Trying to breath, and learn to meditate.

Lumpectomy and sentinel node dissection on July 2nd.

    ER+/PR+, HER2-. 1.4X1.1X1.0cm.
